CK Mornings

➢ A family with a farm in North Dakota were in real trouble after the dad had a heart attack and couldn’t harvest his crops.  So dozens of farmers from all over showed up and did it for him.  A family friend named Jenna Binde helped organize it.

➢ We’ve had a lot of Atlantic storms so far in 2020. The World Meteorological Organization approved a list of 21 Atlantic storm names for this year, and so far 20 of them have been used. The only name left is Wilfred, and there are currently four named systems at play—Paulette, Sally, Teddy, and Vicky. But as of Tuesday (September 15th) the National Hurricane Center was tracking three more potential weather systems, and if one of those becomes Wilfred, then we’ll switch to a new alphabet for names for the rest: the Greek one. And it’s happened before—in 2005 we ended up using six Greek names: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta. In 2020 we’d use those same names in that order, and beyond those six there are 18 more.

➢ This is pretty impressive, and also very illegal. Police in Detroit, Michigan say they arrested a man on Wednesday night (September 16th) after he jumped his vehicle across a drawbridge that was rising.

The operator of the bridge says the driver blew out all four tires and crashed into a gate after completing the jump. The operator hit the emergency stop once he noticed the driver wasn’t stopping the car. Police say the driver, 26-year-old Allen Park was arrested shortly after landing.

➢ On the season premiere of her show, Ellen DeGeneres admitted that “things happened . . . that never should have,” but she said she wasn’t aware of those things until now.

Ellen DeGeneres also said she IS the “nice” person you see on TV, but she also has days when she’s sad, mad, frustrated, and impatient

➢ Simon Cowell will return to “America’s Got Talent” just six weeks after breaking his back. The 60-year-old is planning to appear on the season finale, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, despite recently undergoing six hours of surgery, including having a metal rod inserted into his spine, after falling off his electric bike. Co-judge Heidi Klum told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ”He is going to come to the finale, but do not tell anyone.”

That Glass Coffee Table in Your Living Room Is a Death Trap

A new study at Rutgers found that the glass coffee table in your living room might be a DEATH TRAP.

Glass tables cause over 2.5 million injuries a year.  And kids are more likely to hurt themselves than adults.

Researchers looked at over 3,000 cases.  Here are four quick stats . . .

  1. The groups that hurt themselves the most are little kids and young adults in their early 20’s.  Maybe because both groups are more likely to climb or stand on them.

  1. 55% of injuries involved deep cuts.  But tripping over a glass table you didn’t see also happens a lot.

  1. The body parts you’re most likely to hurt on a glass table are your wrist, hands, and fingers.  But not always from putting your hand through glass.  A lot of people cut themselves picking up broken glass AFTER a table breaks.

  1. Men are more than twice as likely as women to hurt themselves on a glass table.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. When Queen Elizabeth the Secondwas just a princess in 1945, she joined the British military for World War Two and trained to be a mechanic.

  1. Sean Conneryhad a chance to play Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” movies, but turned it down because he didn’t understand the scripts.  He was even offered a piece of the backend of the movies that now would’ve been worth at least $450 million.

  1. X-rays of the Mona Lisa shows that there are at least three different versions underneath.
  2. Before a hurricane, the two top-selling items at Walmart are Pop-Tarts and beer.

Wedding RSVP Card Offers People Better Food Depending on the Price of Their Wedding Gift

There’s a wedding RSVP card that’s going viral right now for its pure insanity.  The couple is offering people different options for dinner based on how much money they’re planning to give as a gift.  Here’s the breakdown . . .

  1. A gift up to $250?  Pick roast chicken or swordfish.

  1. $251 to $500?  Sliced steak or poached salmon.

  1. $501 to $1,000?  Filet mignon or lobster tails.

  1. $1,001 to $2,500 or more?  Two pound lobster, a souvenir champagne goblet . . . or the vegetarian or Kosher option.  That’s right:  Those two aren’t offered at any of the lower gift levels.

As you might expect, people are just TEARING into this couple on social media.

DID YOU KNOW?
YouTube star Stan Browney has successfully reclaimed his record for the most pushups in 30 seconds.

He started the pushup challenge when he recorded himself setting the record, managing 47. He then challenged his viewers to beat him.

One standout, who observed near-perfect form, was able to pound out 50 pushups in 30 seconds. With that as his goal, Browney went to work, focusing on speed and endurance.

Eventually, he was able to get 53 done in the time limit. While it is an impressive feat, for it to actually be a world record, a judge must be present to record the accomplishment.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 22ND

  1. The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars 3-2 last night (September 21st) to even up the Stanley Cup Final at one game each. Tampa Bay scored all three of its goals in the first period, getting them within a less than four-minute span, and then held on for the win. Game 3 will be played Wednesday.

The Las Vegas Raiders topped the New Orleans Saints 34-24 in Monday Night Football last night (September 21st), getting the win in their first game in their new Las Vegas home after the franchise moved from Oakland this season.

Three NFL head coaches — the Denver Broncos’ Vic Fangio, the Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll and the San Francisco 49ers’ Kyle Shanahan — were fined $100,000 each for not wearing face masks on Sunday (September 20th), according to media reports Monday. Each coach’s team was also fined $250,000. The fines were imposed one week after the NFL warned teams about punishment if coaches didn’t wear face coverings on the sidelines at all times during games.

  1. On the season premiere of her show, Ellen DeGeneres admittedthat “things happened . . . that never should have,” but she said she wasn’t aware of those things until now.  (From “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Monday, September 21, 2020)

THOMAS RHETT’S ACM ENTERTAINER WIN WAS ‘SUCH A DREAM’

Thomas Rhett’s ACM Awards win last week for Entertainer of the Year was one of his biggest career goals. He shares the honor this year with Carrie Underwood, and their tie was a first in ACM history.

Thomas tells us: [“It truly has been a dream of mine since day one.  There’s countless times where my manager, Virginia, has asked me, ‘What are your goals for the next five years?  What are your goals for the next ten years?’  And winning Entertainer of the Year was definitely Number One on the list.  Getting to hear an idol of mine, Keith Urban, mention my name along with Carrie Underwood, it made me feel like I’m not the new guy anymore, if that makes any sense. It just solidified a lot of things for me. It’s such a dream, I don’t know how to put it into words.”]

Thomas recently topped the charts with “Be A Light,” featuring Reba McEntire, Keith Urban, Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin.

Hardy’s First New Car Purchase Was a Ford F150 King Ranch

The best part about owning a junky old car . . . beside the fact that it gets you where you need to go . . . are all the great stories it brings.  A hole in the floor, a strange smell, a door that flies open when you make a turn.

HARDY shared his junky car story in an interview with CMT.  He said, quote, “It was a 2006 or 2004 Silverado and none of the speakers worked.  Something about the AC didn’t work.  It would blow air, but it wouldn’t blow cold air.”

Fortunately, he started getting royalty payments for co-writing songs like

“Up Down” and “Simple” . . . and it was finally time for an upgrade.

Quote, “I called my business manager and said, ‘Dude.  I have never owned a new vehicle in my life.  Can I go and buy a new truck?’  and he said, ‘Yeah.’

So, I went and got a 2018 Ford F150 King Ranch and made a few modifications to it.  Nothing crazy.  I’m not, like, super flashy, but it’s sharp as they say.  It’s a sharp vehicle.”

WILLIE NELSON AND JIMMY CARTER
