➢ “Schitt’s Creek” won NINE Emmys last night, breaking the record for most wins by a comedy series in a single season. The cast swept the acting categories. Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara won Best Actor and Actress, and Daniel Levy and Annie Murphy won for Supporting Actor and Actress. That’s the first time a comedy series has done that.
Daniel Levy also set a record for most wins for an individual in a single season, with four. He also got trophies for writing and directing . . . plus Best Comedy Series, since he’s a producer. FYI, “Schitt’s Creek” had ZERO EMMYS heading into the night.
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the show, and winners were presented their awards at home or other remote locations.
➢ The new idiotic trend on TikTok is using a nail file to reshape your teeth. Yes, people are actually doing it, and dentists aren’t happy.
An orthodontist named Ben Winters saw the videos, and explained why it’s really risky to file down your own teeth.
➢ A retired cop in California named Terrell Potter needed a new kidney, and an unexpected donor stepped up. It was a woman named Jocelynn James, who used to be addicted to drugs, and got arrested by Terrell several times. She says being arrested by him eight years ago helped turn her life around, so she just wanted to return the favor.
➢ A missing cell phone in Malaysia turned up with the camera roll full of video and photos of a hungry monkey. Footage shared on social media shows the animal trying to eat the phone, lost by a 20-year-student in Malaysia. Zackrydz Rodzi told the BBC that his phone went missing on Sunday (September 13th). When he called the lost phone, he heard ringing coming from the jungle behind his house. Rodzi is unsure of how he lost the hone, but he suspects that the monkey may have climbed through his brother’s open window.
➢ Shaq and Charles Barkley got in a fight during a game one time. When Shaq got back to the locker room, a security guy handed him a two-way radio, and it was Charles Barkley’s mom. A woman in New York kept her granddaughter entertained in lockdown by building houses for mythical creatures.
They made 14 tiny homes outside for fairies to live in, and created a tour other kids could go on.
They posted a virtual version of the tour on YouTube that the granddaughter narrates.

LAST Week in Science: Life on Venus, Cyborgs, and the Rich Getting Richer
It’s time for “Nerd News,” covering the most important news for your brain you may have missed. Here’s a quick rundown of this week in science . . .
- Astronomers may have found signs of life on Venus. The surface is around 800 degrees, which is too hot to survive. But it’s more like 80 degrees way up in the clouds. And they found signs of phosphine gas, which is usually created by living organisms. So there might be tiny microbes up there.
- An extra $50 trillion has trickled upto the wealthiest 10% of Americans since 1975, according to a new report. And if it hadn’t happened, the average American would be making an extra $1,144 every month. A separate study also found America’s billionaires are now worth $845 billion more than they were before the pandemic hit.
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says this was the northern hemisphere’s hottest summer on record. June through August was 2.1 degrees warmer than an average summer.
- Would you have technology implanted in your body if it would improve your life? Or in other words, become a cyborg? A poll done in Europe found 63% of people would consider it.
NEXT THING THAT MIGHT BE IN SHORT SUPPLY
Kitchen staples, winter sports gear, and outdoor heaters are expected to be among the hot-ticket consumer items as fall arrives in Canada. Retail insiders are expecting Canadians to stock their pantries, equip their home gyms and offices, stretch the outdoor living season, and nest with home improvement projects as the pandemic enters its third season.
Toilet paper, flour, disinfectant wipes, knitting needles and hand sanitizer have all been difficult to find at various times since March pandemic lockdowns took hold. As COVID-19 case numbers in Canada climb and cold weather and the flu season approach some feel there could be more panic buying. Kraft Heinz Canada is gearing up for big demand for staples such as pasta sauces, peanut butter, coffee and boxed macaroni and cheese, and frozen food in the next few months.
Outdoor recreation equipment, such as bikes, paddleboards and kayaks, were in short supply in the summer, and they expect that could soon be the case for skis, snowshoes, snowboards and winter recreational vehicles. Outdoor fireplaces, firepits and heaters are proving popular for homeowners and restaurant and business owners trying to keep outdoor operations open as the temperature drops.
The Philadelphia Eagles Are Still Being Booed at Home . . . with Zero Fans
CARSON WENTZ and the Philadelphia Eagles were booed yesterday, even though they were playing at home.
Eagles fans are known for being . . . well, emotional . . . so that wouldn’t be surprising . . . except for the fact that NO FANS WERE ALLOWED IN.
The boos could be heard at least TWICE during the game: Once during a failed third down, and again after Wentz threw an interception in the end-zone.
So it would appear that an Eagles employee was piping in the boos for his own team when they messed up . . . which is perfectly on-brand for Philly.
For some sporting events, the TV broadcast adds ambient crowd noise . . . so it’s also possible that Fox was responsible. But in this case, it sounds like artificial fan noise in the stadium.
Speaking of COVID-19-era stadium hijinks, around 6,000 Cleveland fans were allowed in to watch the Browns play the Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday, and a few Browns fans showed off their healthy social distancing habits by . . .BRAWLING in the stands. Only in Cleveland.
And at a Boston Red Sox game yesterday, there weren’t SUPPOSED to be any fans, but some guy snuck into the stadium. He threw a temper tantrum . . . and started tossing things onto the field. He had a mask around his neck but wasn’t wearing it. He was above the Green Monster. He even did push-ups at one point. They eventually talked the guy down, but it was . . . less than safe.
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 21ST
- The Los Angeles Lakers went ahead 2 games to 0 in the Western Conference Finals last night (September 20th) with a 105-103 win over the Denver Nuggets. Game 3 will be played tomorrow night.
Game 1 of the WNBA semifinal between the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx that was supposed to be played yesterday (September 20th) was postponed after there were inconclusive coronavirus test results from players on the Storm. The players underwent additional testing and were in isolation, according to the league. No information was given about a rescheduled date, with Game 2 currently scheduled for tomorrow. Like the NBA, the WNBA is playing in a bubble, theirs in Bradenton, Florida.

That means the jackpot for the next draw on TOMORROW will grow to approximately $40 million.
No winning ticket was sold for the $5 million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw.
However, the guaranteed $1 million prize was claimed by a ticket holder in Quebec.
The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw WEDNESDAY will be approximately $6 million.
MAREN MORRIS CALLS MOMMY SHAMING AN ‘EXTRA BETRAYAL’
Maren Morris recently made the decision not to share pictures of her infant son Hayes on social media after many rude and critical comments were made, particularly from other moms. Backstage at the ACM Awards Wednesday (Sept. 16th) night, Maren addressed the mom shaming that happens too often for her liking. [“I mean, I guess I shouldn’t be shocked because I’ve had plenty of trolls come after me before and I can definitely have thick skin when it comes to someone saying my music is terrible or I’m ruining the sanctity of country music, but for some reason it feels like an extra betrayal when it’s another mother shaming another mother, and I just feel like we need to all give each other some grace and I would never do that and I’ve learned to be less judgmental all around just by being a mom because it’s extremely humbling.”]
Maren took home the trophy for Female Artist of the Year for the first time at this week’s ACM Awards. She also won for Vocal Event of the Year as part of the Miranda Lambert-led group performance of “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” along with Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes, Caylee Hammack & Elle King.

LUKE COMBS RELEASES NEW SONG FEATURING AMANDA SHIRES
Luke Combs debuted a new song called “Without You,” featuring special guest Amanda Shires on violin, on Friday (Sept. 18th). The song is from Luke’s upcoming deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, which will be released on October 23rd.
Luke tells us: [“‘Without You’ is a song that I wrote probably a year and a half ago in the mountains of North Carolina. I just really wanted to, along with ‘This One’s For You,’ is always have that song that lets everyone know how appreciative I am of where I am. The first verse is about my parents, and second verse is about my wife, and the third verse is about the fans, so just wanted to thank everybody that I feel like has helped me get to this point.”]
In addition to “Without You,” the extended album will feature all 18 songs from Luke’s platinum-selling What You See Is What You Get, as well as new tracks “Cold As You,” “The Other Guy,” “My Kinda Folk” and “Forever After All.”
He is nominated for six awards at the 54th CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year. The CMA Awards will air live on ABC on Nov. 11th.

Luke Combs and His Bride Chose “Beautiful Crazy” for the First Dance at Their Wedding
If I asked you which song LUKE COMBS and Nicole Hocking picked for the first dance at their wedding you might go with “Beautiful Crazy” . . . or “Better Together” . . . or “Forever After All”. All three were inspired by Nicole.
Well, in an interview with The Boot Luke said they went with “Beautiful Crazy”. That DOES seem like the obvious choice. He wrote it for her before they even started dating, and it got him “some serious brownie points” when she heard it.
But was it too obvious? Quote, “We wrestled with the idea of, ‘Is that corny and is it weird?’ It ended up being like, ‘You know what? This is the thing. We need to do this thing.'”
He also revealed that the ceremony was in serious jeopardy of NOT happening. Not because anyone had cold feet. A week before the wedding there was an issue with the venue, and they had to find a new one. Yeah, that caused a little stress.
He adds, quote, “But we made it happen. It was really great. It was really perfect, and I wouldn’t have changed it for anything, to be honest with you.”
