CK Mornings

A guy in North Carolina sued his wife’s lover for stealing her away from him.

And there’s still an old state law on the books that says it’s illegal.  So a judge awarded him $750,000.

There’s a woman in Canada who bought a couch at a thrift store four years ago for $25.  And she was recently going through the cushions and found a watch.

But it’s not just any watch:  It’s a vintage Rolex Daytona 6241 “Paul Newman” variant.  There were only around 3,000 of them made back in the late ’60s, and they’re some of the hardest watches to find for sale anywhere.

The woman called a watch dealer, and they examined it . . . and determined it’s authentic, and worth at least $250,000.

So what’s the woman planning to do with the money?  She told the watch dealer she’s going to, quote, “buy a house and get a boob job.”

GOOD NEWS

Tech Sergeant Ken O’Brien is a member of the Special Ops rescue branch of the Air Force.  And last year, he was one of the divers who helped rescue all those kids in Thailand who got trapped in a flooded cave.  In the process, he saved a Thai Navy SEAL’s life too. But that’s not all he’s done . . .

He was also part of President Trump’s security detail for his recent summit with Kim Jong-Un.  And he pulled someone from a burning car while he was in South Korea.  So he’s had quite a year.

Last week, the military gave him a big award for it.  But he might deserve another one now.  Because check this out . . .He had to fly in from Japan for the award ceremony.  And during his trip, he saved ANOTHER life.

A one-year-old baby on his flight was choking and stopped breathing.  So Ken stepped in . . . cleared his airway . . . resuscitated the kid . . . handed him to his parents . . . and went back to his seat like it was no big deal.

He recently talked about why he’s always in the right place at the right time.  Quote, “If someone needs to go do something dangerous, I volunteer.  If someone needs a leader, I volunteer.”

Nice Things Random Strangers Have Done for People

Last month, a thread on the website Reddit made the rounds after someone asked people to name the nicest thing a stranger had ever done for them.  Now more responses are going viral.  Here are five more good ones we’ve seen . . .

  1. A single mom couldn’t afford much for Christmas.  So an older guy who lived in her apartment building showed up on Christmas Eve dressed as Santa.  And he had a bunch of presents for her five-year-old kid.

  1. A guy didn’t have much money after his dad passed away.  So the funeral director helped him out . . . and paid his RENT for three months.

  1. A kid moved to a new school in seventh grade.  And on his first day, he was sitting alone at lunch until a random kid said, “Sit with US.”  He says they never really became friends after that.  But it was huge, and he never forgot about it.

  1. Someone had just gotten their license and realized they didn’t know how to pump gas.  Then while they were trying to figure it out, a random person walked up . . . showed them how to do it . . . AND paid for their gas.

  1. A couple went on their honeymoon and didn’t have a lot of money.  But they splurged on a nice hotel anyway.  Then another guest found out they were newlyweds and paid their entire bill.  So now they’re planning to go back to the hotel someday, and pay it forward by doing the same thing for another couple.

IS WINE REALLY HEALTHIER THAN BEER?

You’ve likely heard that drinking red wine is good for you– and to some extent it is, but is it really ‘healthier’ than beer?

Researchers have figured out that red wine contains resveratrol, an antioxidant, which could be the key to its health benefits. So people generally seem to think red wine is healthy and every other alcoholic drink is not.

But, a recent study found that drinking moderate amounts of beer (usually considered one per day for women and two for men) offers the same heart-health benefits as drinking a moderate amount of red wine. A researcher has been studying the long-term effects of wine and beer on health, and says he’s found wine and beer are more or less equal when it comes to lowering a person’s heart disease risk.

Other studies suggest some types of beer might even be healthier than red wine. Still, the idea that any alcoholic beverage is “healthy” is controversial.

Five Things You Probably Don’t Know About Smiling

Today is World Smile Day, so to celebrate, here are five things you might not know about smiling . . .

  1. Smiling is contagious.  According to scientific research, neurons in your brain have a synchronizing feature that keeps you in sync with people you’re talking to.  Meaning if YOU smile, THEY’RE more likely to smile.

  1. It can make you feel better.  Science has shown that big, genuine smiles where you squint your eyes can boost your immune system and decrease cortisol in your body.

  1. It can reduce blood pressure.  Smiling releases endorphins, which can lift your mood AND lower your blood pressure.

  1. It might get you promoted at work.  Studies have found that employers tend to promote people who smile more often.  And one reason might be that smiling shows your boss you’re engaged and easy to work with.

  1. Say “cheeks” instead of “cheese” when someone takes your picture.  Saying “cheeks” shapes your mouth better than saying “cheese” . . . and it lifts your cheeks upward, which gives you a more flattering and natural smile.

One theater chain is getting pretty candid about “Joker”. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has published a warning to parents about the controversial film. The company, which operates 40 theaters in the U.S., wrote on Facebook: “Parental warning (this is not a joke). Joker is Rated R and for good reason. There’s lots of very, very rough language, brutal violence, and overall bad vibes.” Joker, which opens today, is arguably the most controversial film of the year.

BRANTLEY GILBERT RELEASES ‘FIRE & BRIMSTONE’ TODAY – (10/04/2019)

Brantley Gilbert drops his fifth studio album, Fire & Brimstone, today (Friday, Oct. 4th). Like all of his previous albums, this one represents the latest chapter in his life, all summed up with a faith-based title. He tells us why this project was appropriately titled Fire & Brimstone: [“All of my albums are chapters of my life and all my albums have a spiritual or faith-based title. There’s a reason for that. You know, I’m a lot of things. I’m rough around the edges, to say the least. Even being a married dad, you know, I still hang out with a rough crowd. Those are my people, but my one true north has always been my faith and my wife and I have that in common, and this record is kind of just about being comfortable in your own skin in spite of judgment. Fire & Brimstone is kind of, just be the best version of you that you know how to be.”]

Brantley will celebrate his album release with a special USO show at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio today.  The concert will be streamed live on his Facebook page beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Jason Aldean Has a TV in the Bathroom of His Tour Bus

People have been asking JASON ALDEAN for a peek inside his tour bus, so their wish was granted.  Jason posted a video where he and his wife Britney are pointing out every modern convenience you can think of . . . and one you probably haven’t.

There’s a flat screen TV in the bathroom that Jason can watch WHILE he’s taking a shower.  It’s good to be a superstar.

JON PARDI POPS THE QUESTION!

Jon Pardi is engaged to his girlfriend of two years, Summer Duncan. Jon dropped to one knee and surprised Summer during his concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Wednesday (October 2nd) night.

Entertainment Tonight reports that before popping the question, Jon told the crowd that the Ryman Auditorium was one of his and Summer’s very first date spots. Summer said yes and the crowd gave them a standing ovation while the couple hugged and kissed.
