CK Mornings

Two Arizona teens helped put out a brush fire near a major highway.  19-year-old Gabriel Carrillo and 18-year-old Evelyn Williams used their feet and hands to put out the fire and a 30-pack of beer to make sure it didn’t spread.  Here’s Gabriel talking about what happened.  (For the record, a man driving to the lake with his boat stopped to help and they used HIS 30-pack to put it out.  The beer wasn’t the teen’s.)

A young Lamborghini owner in China got his 5 minutes of online fame by trying to barbecue meat with the car’s fiery exhaust — and incurring about $80,000 in repair costs.

A viral video shows a group of men gathered around the orange Lamborghini Aventador (MSRP: $418,000), to witness the cooking of what might be the world’s most expensive pork. The driver keeps pressing the acceleration pedal of the parked car, while his smiling friend holds the skewer of meat to the exhaust, which spits flames as it is revved. What could go wrong?

As it turns out, Lamborghinis’ extreme power makes them prone to overheating, at least when one keeps hitting the throttle while parked. No sooner does the guy start getting a nice char on his kebob, does the Lamborghini erupt in a cloud of smoke, sending him running. The Lamborghini appears to have overheated, dumping all its coolant out.

An “invisible” sculpture created by Italian artist Salvatore Garau has been acquired by a private collector who paid a whopping 15,000 euros (US $18,300) for it at auction. Titled “I am,” the invisible work of art basically represents a void, a technically empty space that is actually occupied by the “energy” of the sculpture. But if it seems to you that the buyer walked away with nothing, you’d be wrong. He or she will receive a certificate of authenticity that proves “I Am” is the property of the buyer.

A musician turned his cat’s warbling into a song.  He added a drumbeat, synthesizer, and his own lyrics.

Five Things You Should Do Every Morning If You Want More Energy

If you’re feeling run-down and tired lately, you aren’t alone.  Even when you’ve gotten plenty of sleep, you might feel sluggish.  So here are a few tips to help you find a little more energy during the day . . .

  1. First thing in the morning, take ten breaths.  Just closing your eyes and focusing on your breathing can be an effective way to slow down and start your day more relaxed.

  1. Hydrate.  A lot of experts say to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, even if you’re not thirsty.  Coffee counts too, but make sure you get enough water as well.

  1. Exercise.  It’s hard to find the motivation to work out in the morning.  But people who do it tend to be more active throughout the day too.  So, it only leads to good things.

  1. Make sure you’re eating enough.  A breakfast that’s high in protein and healthy fats can help maintain energy levels throughout the day.  But don’t eat too much sugar.  Too much in the morning can cause a crash later on.

  1. Ignore your phone.  When you check your phone or email first thing, you’re letting someone else dictate the start of your day.  And boundaries are important.

But I really like the stuff that finished lower on the list.  The 14th most common thing people do is jump up and down . . . the 16th most common is sing . . . and the 17th most common is SLAP THEMSELVES in the FACE.

Toothpaste Tablets Are Going Viral

An estimated 1.5 billion toothpaste tubes are discarded into landfills every year worldwide, and a lot of that plastic ends up in the ocean.

But rather than reinvent the tubes themselves, a unique solution to the plastic pandemic is rising in popularity zero-waste toothpaste tablets.

Often packaged in reusable aluminum or glass jars, toothpaste tablets are essentially toothpaste in a powdered form that’s pressed into a pill-sized tablet.

Using them requires chewing a single tablet and letting it dissolve into a paste with a little help from saliva, or a swig of water before brushing.

In hopes of mitigating plastic pollution, more and more consumers are saying goodbye to tubes altogether and instead, adding these eco-friendly toothpaste tablets to their daily oral care routine.

Scientists Figured Out Why the Sound of People Eating Annoys Us So Much

There’s a reason your parents told you to chew with your mouth shut.  It’s not just rude, it’s also ANNOYING.  And scientists may have finally figured out why we hate it so much . . .

People who get REALLY annoyed by it have something called misophonia.

(Pronounced miss-oh-FONE-ee-uh)  That’s where common sounds like chewing or heavy breathing can drive you nuts. Researchers at Newcastle University in England scanned people’s brains while they played different sounds that might trigger a reaction.  And for people who have the condition, certain parts of their brain lit up MUCH more than people who don’t have it.

One section that lit up was the part of your brain that processes sound, which makes sense.  And that happened with everyone, even people who aren’t extra-sensitive to it.

But some people’s brains also showed hyperactivity in the premotor cortex, which is an area of the brain that’s responsible for moving your mouth and throat.

In other words, hearing someone chew their food can activate the part of your brain that wouldn’t usually kick in unless YOU were chewing.

So for people with misophonia, it can feel like an intrusion.  And it can give them the urge to chew or swallow, even though they’re not eating.

THOMAS RHETT HAS FOND MEMORIES OF ‘NARNIA’

Thomas Rhett is definitely anxious to get back on the road later this year, but he has found the time at home with his wife and three young daughters during the pandemic to be a blessing.

He tells us: [“We have a little sliver of woods next to our house, and one day me and the kids just got a rake and I got some hedge clippers, and we just kinda cut a trail through the woods and built a little fire pit, and we called it Narnia, and my wife bought this whole like troll kit type thing, and so she built like this whole troll world around this tree. It’s just funny, like my kids will wake up and will be like, ‘Daddy, let’s go hang out in Narnia for a little bit.’ That was one of my favorite memories of this last year and something that I think we’ll be using for a long time.”]

FAST FACTS

Thomas released his latest album, Country Again: Side A, in April.

It features his current single and title track along with the chart-topping hit “What’s Your Country Song.”
