CK Mornings

The NHL fined Tom Wilson $5,000 Tuesday morning for roughing Rangers forward Pavel Buchnevich during the second period of Monday’s game. The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement. Wilson was not disciplined for throwing Artemi Panarin to the ice and punching him moments later as a brawl between the two teams continued. Following that the NY Rangers issued a statement in part calling for the firing of the

NHL Head of Player Safety, George Parros, and believe he is unfit to continue in his current role.”   Several former players including long-time enforcer John Scott reacted to the news with disbelief.

There’s a fifth-grader in Texas named Elli Van Bree with a brother named Willem who’s autistic.  And she was worried about him starting school this year.  So she made a video for his classmates to let them know how great he is, even though he’s different.

TREASURE hunters are hoping to dig up 48 crates of Hitler’s hidden gold worth nearly half a billion pounds at a Polish palace used by his SS henchmen as a brothel. The team will begin the archeological excavation at the 18th-century palace in the village of Minkowskie in southern Poland this week and hope to unearth 10 tonnes of gold and other riches.

The items were stolen towards the end of World War It is also thought to be made up of jewelry and possessions treasured by Germany’s elite who lived in the area and gave the Nazis their valuables to avoid them being taken by Russia’s advancing Red Army.

A Las Vegas couple said workers digging behind their home for a pool installation made a surprising discovery: a set of bones that could be up to 14,000 years old. Matt Perkins, who recently moved to Las Vegas with his husband, said they woke up Monday morning to find Las Vegas police officers were speaking with the workers digging out the hole for their backyard pool. “It kind of freaked us out,” Perkins said his mind was eased when the police determined the bones, found about 4-5 feet under the surface, were not from a human — and were likely thousands of years old. The bones likely came from a horse or other large animal. He said the bones could be up to 14,000 years old — dating from the earth’s most recent ice age.

LOOK, UP IN THE SKY

Sky gazers will be treated to a rare glimpse of a total lunar eclipse at the end of the month.

A lunar eclipse happens only once every couple years and will be visible on May 26, making it the first total eclipse since January 2019.

The eclipse occurs when the moon is closest to Earth on its orbit, making it appear seven per cent larger than its average size.

“The total phase will be visible near moonset in the western United States and Canada, all of Mexico, most of Central America and Ecuador, western Peru, and southern Chile and Argentina,” according to NASA.

The space agency says that the moon will be at its fullest just after moonrise

The unique eclipse is a result of the combination of a total lunar eclipse and a full supermoon. When the two events occur simultaneously the moon projects a reddish, copper hue, known as a “super blood moon,” seen by many parts of the world.

The entire event will last approximately 15 minutes, NASA says.

The full eclipse will be best viewed for those living in western Canada.

Two weeks later on June 10, a solar eclipse is expected to be visible across parts of Canada. Lunar eclipses, unlike solar eclipses, are entirely safe to look at with the naked eye.

GOOD NEWS

The time-honored tradition of struggling to squeeze the last bit of toothpaste from the tube could become a thing of the past. Colgate has partnered with LiquiGlide to come up with a new toothpaste tube with a coating designed to avoid any waste.

LiquiGlide went viral in 2012 with a video showing a ketchup bottle being completely empties. The slippery coating technology that made that possible is what makes Colgate’s new Elixir toothpaste frictionless. They say that with traditional tubes, 1-13% of toothpaste goes to waste.

Right now, Colgate is only selling the new “clear, completely transparent, fully recyclable” toothpaste tubes with the special coating in Europe. No word on when it might be available in North America.

A MAJOR CHLORINE SHORTAGE IS SET TO SPOIL SUMMERTIME FUN IN THE SWIMMING POOL

If you have a pool you may want to go get some chlorine now—the worst chlorine shortage in a long time is on its way this summer.

Some pool servicing companies say they’ve already started stockpiling chlorine tablets, and pool industry insiders in multiple states say the chlorine supply is already in tight supply, particularly in Florida, Michigan, Nevada, and Texas, and pool owners are largely unaware of the problem.

A combination of several factors has led to the scarcity, including an unprecedented surge in demand last year, and a chemical plant fire, which destroyed some manufacturing capacity.

One pool expert says “[I] tablets, to powdered chlorine, from powdered chlorine to liquid chlorine, from liquid chlorine to non chlorinated shocks and things. And I do believe that all of those are going to literally run out.”

Pool experts say you say if you visit a public pool make sure the water looks clean and clear before getting in, contact your local pool professionals to discuss chlorine alternatives, and make sure you shower before you swim and do not let pets in the pool as they bring more debris and oils into the water, which will increase how much chlorine you need.

DOUBLE SHOT:
Are you among the millions of people who are waiting to receive a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine? When your appointment day comes, make sure you don’t miss it.

Researchers from Cornell University say lack of information about the importance of a second shot could end up prolonging the pandemic.

They found that 1 in 5 people surveyed in the US believe the vaccines will actually provide enough protection against COVID after just one dose. Researchers found the problem isn’t just with the public. They say not enough people are getting proper guidance from officials or facilities handling vaccinations.

Among vaccinated respondents, only half said they received information about the timing of vaccine protection. Nearly 8% of Americans are not following through on both COVID doses.

That’s over 5 million people missing their second appointment. That means new CDC recommendations putting an end to mask-wearing in most situations do not apply to those patients.

Jason Aldean on the Song He Regrets Passing On

It’s interesting to hear artists talk about “the song that got away.”  They could’ve recorded it, but didn’t for some reason . . . and then it became a huge hit for someone else.

For JASON ALDEAN, that song was Luke Bryan’s “Drunk On You”.  Jason heard it first but passed on it because he was looking for a specific kind of sound to finish an album he was doing.  He liked the song, but it just didn’t fit.

The big regret came a little later.

Quote, “Luke came over and played me some songs off his record and that was one of them and I was like ‘ughhh.’  It went on to be a big ole hit for him.  [But] I believe songs land where they’re supposed to land.”
