There’s a woman named Caron McBride, and she just got married in Texas.  But when she went to try to change her last name, there was a problem . . . she had an outstanding FELONY charge back in her hometown of Norman, Oklahoma.

She looked into it, and the felony embezzlement charge comes from 1999, when she rented a VHS tape of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” from a video store and never returned it.  The charges were filed in March of 2000.

McBride claims it was actually someone she was living with who must have rented the VHS and never returned it.

Early in the pandemic, a teacher in Connecticut named Louis Goffinet raised a bunch of money online to buy groceries for families who were struggling.  He was hoping to raise a few hundred bucks and ended up raising over $40,000.  Which is great, but he didn’t have a charity or nonprofit attached.  So now he’s been hit with a $16,000 tax bill.

How far would you go for free food? California-based restaurant Farmer Boys announced it’s partnered up with a tattoo shop to offer three different 2-inch-by-2-inch tattoo designs. Customers who get the tattoos will get free burgers for a year from Farmer Boys locations. Tacos are the best food to brighten your mood if you’re having a bad day. Or at least ONE of the best foods. A poll of 2,000  found that eating something salty or something sweet can be an instant mood changer when you’re down in the dumps. A quarter of respondents opt for salty treats on a bad day, while 31% prefer something sweet. The top foods people reach for on a bad day? 46% go for chocolate, 36% look for fast-food or candy, and 35% prefer chips. By the way, 41% said chocolate is what they reach for on a good day, too.

If you don’t follow the PGA, you probably don’t know Australian golfer Cameron Smith.  But his hair . . . specifically his MULLET . . . makes him memorable.  He first debuted it earlier this year. Well, Cameron’s girlfriend is NOT a fan.  So he promised her that he’d cut it off . . . IF he won a PGA Tour event.  And on Sunday, he won the Zurich Classic.  But he’s going back on his promise.

Four Foods That Zap Your Energy

If you’re feeling sluggish, it might be something you ate.  A group of dieticians were asked to name foods that can zap your energy.  Here are four things that can make you tired . . .

  1. Coffee and energy drinks.  Too much caffeine can lead to a crash about five hours later.  So if you load up on coffee in the morning, you might feel wiped out later in the day.  And too much of it late in the day can also mess with your sleep.

  1. Candy.  Same thing, but with sugar.  You get a boost of energy for a while, but then you crash.

  1. Smoothies.  Again, it’s all about the sugar.  And because it’s liquified, all that sugar gets into your bloodstream faster than if you just ate fruit.

  1. Low-calorie frozen meals.  Some of them have 300 calories or less, which isn’t really enough to fuel up.  And they tend to be filled with salt, which causes bloating and gives you an overall feeling of fatigue.

So what are some foods that GIVE you energy?  The next time you’re feeling tired, bananas, pistachios, black beans, and eggs are all a good choice.  And just drinking more water can help too.

  3. In feudal Japan, lords purposely built homes with squeaky floors as a defensive measure against ninjas.

Unfortunately, he didn’t win.  But people wanted him to know how much they appreciate him.

So the parents of current and former students got together, pooled their money, and surprised him last month with a check for $35,000.

SCIENCE NEWS

  1. Steak-umms. . . yes, the sandwich meat brand . . . called out NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON on Twitter for misrepresenting science.  And the crazy thing is, they were right.

Neil said, quote, “The good thing about science is that it’s TRUE whether or not you believe it.”  And Steak-umms responded with, “Log off, bro.”  So people thought they were being rude, or even ANTI-science.  But then they correctly explained that science itself isn’t “true.”  It’s an “ever-refining process to FIND truth.”

  1. Researchers in Germany found gorillas pound their cheststo AVOID a fight, not start one.  They do it to show how big and tough they are, so other gorillas will back off.

  1. Researchers in Egypt unearthed an ancient citythat’s been buried in sand for 3,000 years.  They say it’s one of the biggest discoveries since King Tut in 1922.

  1. Elon Musk recently said that his Neuralink company could be ready to start implantingcomputer chips in people’s brains later this year.  But that might not be all they’re cooking up.  Neuralink co-founder Max Hodak said, quote, “We could probably build Jurassic Park if we wanted to.”  He added, quote, “[It] wouldn’t be genetically authentic dinosaurs but maybe 15 years of breeding and engineering to get super exotic novel species.”

Here’s a clip from the lunch scene where Jeff Goldblum’s character tells the scientists they were more worried about if they “could,” not if they “should”.

One in Three People Like Watching TV with the Subtitles On?

Believe it or not, according to a new survey, one out of three people say they usually keep the subtitles ON when they’re watching TV . . . and not to translate.

Like, people who speak English keep on English subtitles just because they like them.

57% of people say they usually watch TV with the subtitles off.

This whole “subtitles on” thing definitely seems like a younger phenomenon . . . 50% of people under 24 like subtitles, and so do 46% of people between 25 and 34.

The older you are, the less likely you are to use them.

Miranda told the crowd, “No matter what I’ve ever done in my career and what I’m still gonna do, somehow I still feel most at home on a barstool under a neon sign. I walked in here and I took a little tour around, and I just felt so at home. I remembered why I do this and why I missed y’all’s faces so damn much.”

She treated fans to a glimpse at her upcoming project when Jack Ingram surprised her on Thursday evening for a performance of “Tequila Does.” The song is included on their The Marfa Tapes album, which also features Jon Randall and is due out on May 7th.

TRAVIS DENNING TIPS HIS HAT TO COUNTRY VIDEOS FROM THE 2000’S IN NEW CLIP

Travis Denning has released the video for his new single, “ABBY.” In the clip, Travis takes on the role of multiple characters all tipping their hat to some unforgettable and beloved country music videos from the 2000’s.

“ABBY” was written by Ashley Gorley, Matt Jenkins and Chase McGill, but as Travis tells us, he really wishes he had come up with the idea. [“This is a song I didn’t write but I heard it – my buddy played me the demo early on. I laughed, and I was like that’s so smart. I was jealous of it. I was like, Dang, I wish I’d written that, and I just related to it. I mean, who can’t relate to a break-up that just has no dignity whatsoever? Every now and then, you’ve got to go full-on ‘I’m done with you and I really need you to understand that in the deepest way.’”]

“ABBY” is included on Travis’ 2020 EP, Beer’s Better Cold. The project also features his debut chart-topping single “After A Few.”
