CK Mornings

George Segal from “The Goldbergs” and “Just Shoot Me!” died yesterday of complications from bypass surgery.  He was 87.  (Here’s a montage from both of those series. A new episode of “The Goldbergs” airs tonight.)

A winery in California called Murphy-Goode is hiring someone off the Internet to move to wine country for a year, drink wine, and learn the industry.  And they’re going to pay $120,000 for the year, plus they’ll give you a free place to live.  If you’re interested, you can submit a video by the end of June telling them why you want the job.  (Here’s the CEO of their parent company talking about why a lot of people looking to change careers might be interested.)

You hear a lot of people rage quitting jobs.  You don’t usually hear about a COMPANY raging over someone quitting.  And then getting revenge on them like THIS.

A guy named Andreas Flaten gave his two weeks’ notice back in November at an Auto works store in Georgia.  And he says the owner was very upset.

But the company still owed Andreas $915 . . . and they never sent it to him.  He wound up calling the Georgia Department of Labor to complain.

And the company finally delivered his paycheck . . . by dumping 500 POUNDS of PENNIES covered in OIL on his driveway.  There was also a nasty note.

Andreas says he quit the job because it was a toxic work environment . . . and this really backs that up.  He shoveled the pennies into his garage and he’s working on cleaning the oil off so he can cash them in.

A high-school cheerleader in Nebraska named Kaela Meyer was having lunch with her mom at Applebee’s when a guy had a seizure.  So she did CPR, which she just learned in November.  And paramedics say she may have saved his life.

Is This How Soaps Are Handling Kissing Scenes During the Pandemic?

Have you ever wondered how soap operas are handling all the kissing scenes in the age of COVID-19?

Well, one show is REALLY putting some effort into it.

The British soap “Coronation Street” has gone to the trouble of finding LOOKALIKES to serve as Extras for those kissing close-ups . . . who also happen to be couples in REAL LIFE.  (???)

Due to restrictions, they’re also filming the actors having conversations SEPARATELY . . . and then editing it together in a way that makes it look like they’re sitting together.

This seems crazy . . . but at the same time, it IS a unique situation.

Most movies and shows will go into production for a few weeks at a time.  So if there’s a lot of close contact or kissing required, they can quarantine first, and then operate freely within a production “bubble.” But with soaps, it’s a more ongoing gig.  They’re filming constantly . . . and the actors are INTIMATE constantly.

A few months back, we heard Lifetime movies were having actors kiss through plexiglass barriers, and then editing them out.  It’s unclear if this soap tried that, or if it would still require the actors to be too close for local restrictions.

Car Thief Stops to Help Someone with a Flat Tire, and They Steal His Stolen Car

A 21-year-old guy in Maryland named Shamari Reid was driving around with a friend in a stolen SUV last week.  And they decided to do a GOOD deed for a change.

They spotted a random guy on the side of the road changing a flat.  So they pulled over and offered to help.

But then while they were helping him, the guy jumped into the SUV and tried to STEAL their ALREADY stolen car.

He threw it in reverse and tried to drive off.  But he slammed into a curb and got stuck.

The flat tire guy is 19-year-old Tykel Wilson.  He ended up pulling a gun on them but threw it in the bush before the cops got there.

It turned out the car he’d been driving was also stolen, and both men had active warrants out.  Now they’re each facing fresh charges as well.

SELF-DRIVING TESLA HITS MICHIGAN STATE POLICE CAR ON FREEWAY

Just because you put your car on autopilot doesn’t mean you can stop paying attention. Michigan State Police say a Tesla on autopilot hit one of their police cars early yesterday morning (March 17th) on I-96.

The police car was parked with its emergency lights on while investigating a nearby car-deer crash when the Tesla hit. The 22-year-old driver was cited for failure to move over and driving while license suspended. No one was injured in the crash. Tesla’s website notes that the autopilot function in the car allows it to “steer, accelerate and brake automatically within its lane,” but does not make the vehicle autonomous and requires supervision.

A Man Stole a Police Car While He Was Being Arrested for Stealing a Police Car

A guy in his 30s stole a police car in Levis, Quebec Monday afternoon when the cops were responding to a report.

Other cops spotted the police car on a highway and got into a chase . . . which ended when the guy crashed into a concrete barrier.

The cops swarmed him and tried to arrest him, but he got away . . . and stole THEIR police car.

So that led to ANOTHER chase.  And this time when they caught the guy, they arrested him and he didn’t manage to steal a third police car.

WHY ALLERGIES MIGHT BE ZAPPING YOUR ENERGY

If you’ve been constantly tired it could be due to allergies. Dr. Catherine Monteleone, an allergist-immunologist, says, “Seasonal allergies can make you feel less energized.” There are a few reasons for this: you’re not breathing well (your body has to work a little harder to operate normally, which is tiring), the immune response is tough on your body (allergies cause inflammation, which means your body needs more energy to create the immune response, plus the release of histamines can make you feel tired), you’re having trouble sleeping (due to nasal congestion), and your medication is wiping you out (certain allergy medications can make you feel tired.) To avoid all of this, the experts advise you get tests to find out what you’re allergic to so you can avoid it, and then consider taking an allergy medication that is non-drowsy. If you’re really struggling with allergies, be sure to see a doctor to see about your options.

ACM CHOSE MICKEY GUYTON TO HOST ALMOST IMMEDIATELY

Executives at the Academy of Country Music say that after they saw Mickey Guyton’s performance at the 2020 ACM Awards, they made the choice to ask her to host… almost immediately.

That night she gave a commanding performance with solo host, Keith Urban accompanying her on piano. That night marked the first performance on the ACMs stage from a solo Black female artist.

This statement from the Academy: “It was so powerful watching Keith play piano for her. We were so moved by it. Literally, right after that, we were like, ‘We’ve got to ask her to host with Keith next year.”

Next month, Mickey will make history once again: This time, as the first Black woman ever to host the show, and the first Black artist overall to do so since Charley Pride did in 1984.

CHRIS YOUNG AND KANE BROWN BOND OVER VIDEO GAMES, SPORTS

Chris Young is joined by his good friend Kane Brown on his latest single, “Famous Friends.” The two met a few years ago and became fast friends, bonding over their love of video games and sports, among other things. Chris tells us these are a few of the things the two like to do and discuss when they get the chance to hang out. [“You know, he’s a gamer, so I love Call of Duty. That guy is a fiend about playing and I know he gets on Twitch and does that a lot so we’ll discuss like what layouts we want, what are your settings, what do you use . . . anyway, big, big gamer, and obviously like sports back and forth like constantly. Like, if Georgia doesn’t do well I know not to test him too much (laughs).”]

“Famous Friends” is a Top 25 hit and climbing on the country charts. The video featuring Chris and Kane will be released on Thursday (March 25th).

The song will be included on Chris’ upcoming studio album, Raised On Country.

GARY LEVOX RELEASES SOLO CHRISTIAN SONG

Gary LeVox, the longtime lead singer of Rascal Flatts, has released a new Christian solo track he co-wrote called “The Distance.” He has also released a performance video of the track.

Gary said, “The Distance” was the first song written for my solo chapter. With the struggles and battles so many have gone through this past year and taken over people’s everyday lives, this felt like a true song of hope.”

Gary has been fronting Rascal Flatts for the past 20 years alongside Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney. While the shift to being a solo artist is bittersweet, Gary tells us it was also a necessary change. [“There’s mixed emotions. I mean, it feels great to be able to make the music that I want to make, I mean, not that I haven’t, but it’s just nice to have one opinion on what you’re cutting. I’m fitting in the shoes pretty well, so it’s good. It was time. There’s a time for a new season and now’s the time so it feels really good. I’m really excited about the music and I’m just thrilled about it.”]

The trio celebrated its farewell with Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts The Greatest Hits in 2020. Gary will continue to pursue a career as a solo artist.
