➢ A store in Brazil has caused outrage after an employee who died was covered with umbrellas so the store could remain open. Manoel Cavalcante suffered a heart attack during his shift at the Carrefour supermarket. Instead of closing the store, his fellow staff members placed three large umbrellas and several boxes around his body to ensure it couldn’t be seen. Unsuspecting customers carried on as usual, assuming the boxes and umbrellas were concealing a spill or a future display, until the morgue was able to retrieve the body more than 4 hours later. Following an online backlash, the store issued an apology.

 

➢ A Chinese Technology Company has sparked controversy on social media after videos of digital timers over employee toilet stalls went viral. They showed digital timers hanging over each cubicle and sensors installed on the cubicle doors to trigger the timers. Social media users slammed the company for monitoring and timing its workers’ time in the toilet to increase productivity and profits. Their explanation? It claims the timers aren’t meant to limit employees’ toilet usage, but rather a solution to a “serious” toilet shortage problem

 

➢ I’m not sure WHY anyone would want to relive the past eight months . . . but if you do, here’s something to help get you there.

A novelty candle company in England has created a candle called “The 2020 Scent.”

It’s a layered candle that for $20 will take you through four of the big smells of 2020:

1. Banana bread.
2. Hand sanitizer.
3. Wood, for the DIY project and home improvement phase of quarantine.
4. And, quote, “budget aftershave and earthy essence,” which is supposed to make you think of “Tiger King”.

 

➢NATHAN APODACA made a lot of people happy when he posted that TikTok of himself skateboarding, drinking his cran-raspberry juice, listening to “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac. . . and just VIBING.

And over the weekend, he made HIMSELF happy by proposing to his girlfriend, Estela Chavez.  He got down on one knee Saturday night at the Nobu Hotel in Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and popped the question.  And she said YES.

He put a $22,000 rock on her finger.  Yeah, things have been going well for him since he went viral.  They’re getting married in December.

Nathan and Estela have been together 14 months.  They met at the potato factory where he works back home in Idaho.

 

➢ Netflix says that about HALF of their subscribers watched one of their original holiday movies last year.  At the time they had 167 million subscribers . . . so that would mean about 84 million.

Netflix’s slate of original holiday films will grow by SEVEN this year.

Scientific Myths Movies Made Us Believe

1. You can hide behind a car door in a gun fight.  Car doors are made to be lightweight, not bullet proof.

 

2. You can knock someone out with chloroform in seconds.  It actually takes about five minutes to take effect.

 

3. Meteors are hot when they hit the Earth.  They’re actually lukewarm, because the hot outer layers get blown off on impact.

 

4.  Gun silencers actually work.  Technically, they DO work.  But not like they do in movies.  In real life, a gun with a silencer is still pretty loud.

 

5. You should suck the venom out of a bite.  That can contaminate the wound and harm the nerves and blood vessels of the victim.  It can also cause harm to the one doing the sucking.

 

6. Using the paddles when someone flatlines.  You actually do CPR when someone flatlines.  A defibrillator is for someone experiencing rapid heart contractions.

 

7. A gunshot to the shoulder is no big deal.  People in the movies are always getting shot in the shoulder and brushing it off.  But you’ve got a major artery and a large bundle of nerves in there.

We’ve Spent an Extra 448 Hours on the Couch Because of the Pandemic

70% say their couch has basically been their best friend during the pandemic.

The average person has spent an extra 448 HOURS on their couch since March.  Or two extra hours a day, every day, for the past eight months.

 

1. Our couch is our second-favorite piece of furniture overall.  The top five are our bed, sofa, lounge chair, coffee table, and home office furniture.
2. The average sofa is seven years old.  Half of us would like a new one but don’t want to spend the money.
3. 61% of people who are working from home say the couch has become their main workstation.
4. And 7 in 10 say their “perfect night in” right now involves their sofa in some way.

The top aspects of a “perfect” pandemic night in are:  Ordering food . . . binge-watching Netflix . . . and playing board games.

 

 

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10^TH  

 

1. Pfizer says its vaccine is over 90% effective at preventing people from getting the virus.  This is huge news because it means the vaccines could really help us get things under control.  Officials like Dr. Fauci were worried they might only be 50 to 70% effective.  And if only half of us were willing to get a vaccine, it might not do much.  (Here’s Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla talkingabout it on CNN.)

 

2. The winless New York Jets led most of last night’s “Monday Night Football” game, in what could’ve been their first win of the season.  But Cam Newton and the Patriots scored a touchdown with about two minutes left, and tied the score at 27.  The Jets failed to get a first down, had to punt, and the Patriots made it down to the 33 yard line to attempt a game-winning field goal.  Here’s the final play.  (Pats go to 3 and 5.  From “Monday Night Football” on Monday, November 9, 2020.)

Tyler Hubbard “Got the Rona”, So Florida Georgia Line Will Not Perform at the CMAs

TYLER HUBBARD has tested positive for COVID 19, so Florida Georgia Line will NOT be performing at tomorrow night’s CMAs.  As far as we know, Brian Kelley is okay.  Tyler posted the news yesterday on Instagram saying that he “got the Rona,” is asymptomatic, and is quarantining on his tour bus.

His wife Hayley wrote on her Instagram stories that the family has been on lockdown since last week when Tyler got his first positive COVID test, and that he infected two other people.

One last thing.  As you know, Lee Brice also canceled his appearance after testing positive, and his shoes have already been filled.  Lady A’s Charles Kelley will take the stage with Carly Pearce to perform “I Hope You’re Happy Now”.

 

 

What Exactly Are the CMAs Doing to Protect Everyone from the Virus?

When the CMAs announced the show would NOT be virtual, I think we all wondered exactly how they planned to pull that off.  Well, here are a few details.

Every single person is being tested “before entering the footprint” of the place.  And many are being tested repeatedly.  Everyone is required to wear the appropriate protective gear, and everyone “must practice social and physical distancing.”

There won’t be any fans, but there will be an audience of artists and industry people.  They’ll be seated banquet-style with tables on the floor of the awards show area that are spaced eight feet apart.  Only one artist and their guest will occupy each table.

There are always multiple stages at awards shows so that stays the same, but “deep cleaning protocols” will happen in between performances.  That takes time, so around 40% of the 20 performances are being pre-recorded.

 

 

CARLY PEARCE SAYS 2020 HAS GIVEN HER SOME ‘BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS’
