CK Mornings

➢ People in the U.S. went to bed without knowing who will be the next president, with President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden locked in a tight battle, with the three traditionally Democratic states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania that Trump was able to flip in 2016 again the focus of attention. All three had a large number of mail-in votes amid the pandemic that need to be processed, and while we may have a result today, there is a prospect of the election outcome might not be known for days.

➢ A man in Bronx, New York, plummeted more than 15 feet into a sinkhole as he was waiting for a bus on Saturday afternoon. He broke his arm and leg and the sinkhole was  filled with so many rats that he couldn’t yell, because they were going in his mouth.

➢ Paris traffic was brought to a standstill late last week when a record-breaking traffic jam was seen snaking through the city hours before France entered its second coronavirus lockdown. Figures from the official traffic monitoring website Sytadin showed the line reached 438 miles (706km) – breaking the previous French record of 391 miles (629km), which occurred last December amid public transport strikes.

➢ These people were feeding a zebra at a drive-thru zoo when it suddenly stuck its head inside the car and shouted at them like Marty the Zebra from “Madagascar”.  He’s voiced by Chris Rock.  (Here’s a collection of Marty scenes.  The very first one is the best comparison.)

➢ When “Dexter” ended, a lot of people HATED the finale, but apparently, they’re going to get another shot at it. Showtime is reviving the show . . . WITH its star MICHAEL C. HALL.

The only catch is that it’s only supposed to be a one-off, limited series with 10 episodes.  There’s no premiere date yet, but it’ll be sometime NEXT fall.

The execs at Showtime say they were only willing to revisit “Dexter” if they had a creative take that was “worthy” . . . and they’ve “found it.”  There are no details on the plot yet.

“Dexter” originally ran for eight seasons on Showtime, from 2006 to 2013.

➢ Kazakhstan’s government absolutely hated the 2006 movie “Borat,” but now they’re embracing the character’s catchphrase—“Very nice”—as part of its latest tourism campaign. The “Very Nice” campaign consists of four short advertisements showcasing the country’s landscape, food, and culture, each with a visitor remarking “very nice” during the experiences. A message on the country’s official social media pages reads, “Kazakhstan? Very nice! It’s a place you may have heard of, that’s nicer than you ever imagined.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “King Tut Day”, celebrating the date of the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s Tomb. King Tut’s rule lasted just nine years, from 1333 B.C. to 1324 B.C. His cause of his death is uncertain. Murder, malaria and an innocent accident are the main theories.

  • “Easy-Bake Oven Day”, this pop-culture icon has struck a note with kids and adults. It’s even been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

2001 [19] “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, the first film adaptation of the books by J. K. Rowling, premieres, is released, starring Daniel Radcliffe (In the US, India and Pakistan, it is released as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”)

STANDING ROOM ONLY:
A man who is being called “Britain’s biggest hoarder” has died, and left behind a treasure-trove worth as much as £4 million (US $ 5.2 million).

The collection of more than 60,000 items was crammed into a home in Nottingham, where the owner had stacked possessions from floor-to-ceiling in every room, including everything from unopened parcels dating back to 2002 to valuable collectables and antiques.

He had also filled a rented apartment, two garages, part of a neighbor’s year and 24 wheelie bins to store more belongings. It took a team of eight people in three vans 180 hours to empty the house, over the course of six weeks.

The items, many of which are described as “not rubbish, but top-quality stuff”, will be sold off in 3,000 lots over a 4-day sale. The late owner had assembled so much stuff that he was forced to move into a bed-and-breakfast in the last year because he’d run out of space for himself

FOUR RANDOM “MOVEMBER” FACTS

  1. Mustaches are hotbeds for bacteria because of the moist air leaving the body through the nose and mouth.
  2. A study found that the more common bearded men are, the less attractive beards become to women.
  3. Sideburns are named after American Civil War General, General Burnside, who had huge sideburns connected by a mustache.
  4. In 17th century Russia, you could be taxed 100 rubles a year for having a beard.

✓ If you were to put down the razor and stop shaving forever, your beard would grow to approximately 27.5 feet (if you are male).

GOOD NEWS

In August, a guy in California named Kevin Cozzi saved a woman’s 10-year-old daughter from drowning after she got stuck in a riptide.

So now the mom is raising money on GoFundMe to pay for his dream wedding.  His original wedding got cancelled by COVID this year.

As of last night, she’d raised about $25,000.  (They talked about it in an interview, along with her daughter Hayley.  Kevin said saving her was the only reward he needed.)

Thieves Break Into an Escape Room, Crack the Safe . . . But Only Find Riddles Inside

You should probably understand the concept of an ESCAPE ROOM before you break into one.

Last week, some thieves broke into an escape room business in Utrecht, in the Netherlands.  And while they were inside, they focused most of their energy on breaking into an antique safe.

But when they finally got it open, all they found inside were . . . RIDDLES.

Because cracking that safe is actually part of the puzzle.  People who go to that escape room crack it daily.

The thieves ended up grabbing whatever non-riddle stuff they could find, including a camera, candy, soda, and $11 in cash . . . and then they took off.

The cops are trying to track them down.

A Woman Impersonates a Prosecutor to Drop the Charges Against Herself

We’ve heard of people trying all sorts of things to get charges against them dropped . . . but this is a new one.

There’s a 33-year-old woman named Lisa Landon from Littleton, New Hampshire.  And last year, she was facing charges for drug possession and stalking.

And her plan to get out of trouble was . . . she impersonated a county PROSECUTOR and filed counterfeit documents with the court to have charges dropped.

And it actually worked . . . temporarily.  No one noticed her paperwork until she was scheduled to have a psych evaluation, and the state forensic examiner realized the charges had mysteriously been dropped.

The REAL prosecutors investigated and figured out what she’d done.  So she was charged with six counts of falsifying evidence.

And she was just indicted on those charges by a grand jury.

New Pill That Prevents Snoring Is on the Way

Here’s some exciting news . . . for you, or the person who sleeps next to you.  A new pill to prevent SNORING is in the works.

It’s a combination of two non-sleep drugs.  One is a drug for ADHD, and the other is used to treat people with overactive bladders.

A small study found that when both drugs are combined, it reduces snoring by 74%.  And people with sleep apnea have higher blood oxygen levels when they take it.  So now a drug company in Massachusetts is doing a full trial to make sure it’s safe.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4TH

  1. People in the U.S. went to bed without knowing who will be the next president, with President Trumpand former Vice President Joe Biden locked in a tight battle, with the three traditionally Democratic states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania that Trump was able to flip in 2016 again the focus of attention. All three had a large number of mail-in votes amid the pandemic that need to be processed, and while we may have a result today, there is a prospect of the election outcome might not be known for days. Other close states yet to be called included as of 4:00 a.m. ET, when Biden had 238 electoral votes to 213 for Trump — according to the Associated Press’ count — of the 270 needed to win, included Georgia, North Carolina and Nevada.

  1. Saturday’s (November 7th) football game between Wisconsin and Purdue has been canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak in Wisconsin’s program. The school has had 27 cases among 15 athletes and 12 staffers since October 24th. This is the second straight game Wisconsin has been forced to cancel due to their outbreak, after calling off their Nebraska game on October 31st.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton was put on the reserve/Covid-19 Tuesday (November 3rd) and will miss the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. This is the second straight game Dalton is missing after being out of the first because of a concussion. ESPN said Dallas hasn’t decided yet who will start in his place.

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway and team president Joe Ellis both tested positive for the coronavirus yesterday (November 3rd). The Broncos said both Elway, the former quarterback great, and Ellis have minor symptoms and are “doing well.” The team said contract tracing shows no players or coaches came into close contact with either recently.

  1. Rich people and celebrities get a lot of free stuff.  Sometimes they even expect it.  Yesterday, three streamers were interviewing the Vice President of Xbox, Phil Spencer, and asked him about giving an Xbox Fridge to Snoop Dogg.  He explained why, and also has a funny answerfor rich people when they bug him for free Xbox products.

CARLY PEARCE SAYS CMA SONG OF THE YEAR NOD IS ‘EXTRA’

Carly Pearce heads into next week’s CMA Awards with four nominations — three for her chart-topping hit, “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” along with New Artist of the Year. Carly co-wrote the song with Luke Combs, Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton. “I Hope You’re Happy Now” is up for Song of the Year, which honors the writers, as well as Musical Event and Video of the Year.

Carly tells us that being included in the Song of the Year category is especially meaningful: [“That one means extra. That’s on another level. You realize how important songs are when you do this and you realize how many great songs happen, and to think that I was recognized as a songwriter, solely, on something that was so special and so personal to me, that is very, very special to me because it shows something outside of just Carly Pearce.”]

The CMA Awards airs live from Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 11th at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

FAST FACTS

Carly’s latest single is called “Next Girl.”     It will be included on her upcoming studio album.
