➢ Original James Bond actor SEAN CONNERY died in his sleep on Saturday, at the age of 90.  There’s no cause of death, but his wife said he’d been suffering from dementia, and his son said that he’d been “unwell for some time.”

Connery is most famous for being the first to play James Bond on the big screen.  That was “Dr. No” back in 1962.

He later played Bond in the 1983 movie “Never Say Never Again”.  It was based on the novel “Thunderball”, but was NOT produced by Eon Productions, which has done all 25 movies in the main Bond movie series.

Interesting Fact:  Connery’s wife suggested the title “Never Say Never Again”, because after making “Diamonds Are Forever”, Sean vowed to never make another Bond movie.  But, 12 years later, he agreed to do this one.

Here’s Sean Connery talking about starring as James Bond, along with three-time Bond movie director, Terence Young, who explains Connery wasn’t the first, or even second, choice to play Bond.  (Connery’s first was “Dr. No” in 1962.  He was 007 in these others, “From Russia With Love”, “Goldfinger”, “Thunderball”, “You Only Live Twice”, “Diamonds Are Forever”, and “Never Say Never Again”.)

➢ A 32-year-old woman in Florida is facing charges for a shipping label scheme where she scammed Amazon out of $165,000.  She used 31 different accounts, and reused prepaid shipping labels for cancelled orders that they then reimbursed her for.  Over five years, she returned around 42,000 items, and got $3.99 each time she did it.  Here’s law enforcement, and a TV reporter at her door.

➢ There’s a 50-year-old guy named Dwight Turner in Davie, Florida.  And he recently went to a small private animal sanctuary owned by a guy named Michael Poggi to pay $150 for a, quote, “full contact experience” with a black leopard.

And as soon as Dwight got into the cage . . . the leopard MAULED the hell out of him.

He spent a week in the emergency room and needed multiple surgeries after the leopard did a number on his head and right ear.

Michael WAS licensed to have the leopard, but not to offer the contact experience . . . so now, he’s been cited for maintaining captive wildlife in an unsafe condition.

➢ It shouldn’t come as a surprise that men do NOT like to go to the doctor. But a survey by the Cleveland Clinic shows just HOW MUCH they don’t like it. The study of almost 1,200 men in the US found that 65% of men avoid going to the doctor for as long as possible. 37% have withheld information from their doctor to avoid a potentially negative diagnosis, and a full 72% of men said they’d rather do household chores (even including cleaning the toilet!) than visit the doctor.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Deviled Egg Day”, saluting the dish that entails hard-boiled eggs cut in half and filled with the egg’s yolk mixed with mayonnaise & mustard.

“Cookie Monster Day”, a celebration of the birthday of everyone’s favorite blue monster with a voracious appetite. Jim Henson created the original version of Cookie Monster for a General Foods commercial in 1966, and the beloved character appeared in the very first episode of “Sesame Street” in 1969.

Here’s Exactly What Time to Get in Bed, Based on When You Need to Wake Up

We gained an hour of sleep this weekend so if you’re sleep deprived, that’s good news.  But here’s something else you can also do . . .

Someone created an online calculator that tells you EXACTLY what time to go to bed, based on when you need to get up.

Everyone says you need seven to eight hours a night.  But it’s not really that simple, because we sleep in cycles that are around 90 minutes long.

You’re supposed to get through five or six of those cycles a night.  And if you wake up in the middle of one, you feel more sluggish.  So sometimes it’s better to wake up EARLIER, before a new cycle starts.

A company in the U.K. built a sleep calculator that gives you four different options, depending on how late you need to stay up.  And it takes the average person 14 minutes to fall asleep, so they factored that in.   All you do is enter your wake-up time, and it spits out four possible bedtimes.

For example, if you need to get up at 7:00 tomorrow, you should get in bed at 9:46 . . . 11:16 . . . 12:46 . . . or 2:16 AM.

You can check it out at Hillarys.co.uk.  Or there’s a similar website called SleepCalculator.com.

BIRTHDAYS

[59] k.d. lang, singer (‘Constant Craving’, ‘Crying’)

[54] David Schwimmer, actor (“Friends” 1994-2004)

LAST WEEK IN SCIENCE

  1. Ogre-faced spidershave the largest eyes of any spider in the world.  They only come out at night . . . can see 2,000 times better than we can in the dark . . . and scientists always thought they were deaf.  But it turns out they have tiny receptors in their legs to help them hunt.  And they can detect sound from more than six feet away.

  1. A study in the journal “Behavioral Ecology” found vampire batsare much better at social distancing than we are.  When they’re sick or their immune system is weak, they automatically stay away from other bats that are healthy.

  1. NASA reposted the spookiest photo of the Sunever taken.  Back in October of 2014, the brightest and most-active parts of the sun happened to make a pattern that looked like a jack-o-lantern, with two eyes, a nose, and a creepy smile.

  1. And a new study looked at “recreational fear,” or why we sometimes enjoy being scared.  A team of researchers watched people go through a haunted house, and tracked their heart rate.  Then they asked them which parts of it they liked most.

They found there’s a sweet spot where you’re not too scared, but just scared enough to have the maximum amount of fun.  It’s less fun if our heart rate gets too high, or too low.  And we don’t like being scared too many times in a row without a break.

Four Tech Skills Grandparents Added in 2020

Your grandparents might be a little more tech savvy than a year ago.  You probably won’t not catch them playing “Fortnite”, but they’ve had to adjust like everyone else . . .

A new survey asked 2,000 Americans over 65 to name tech stuff they did for the first time this year.  Here are the four most common answers . . .

  1. Using Zoom.  A third of seniors have done it since the pandemic hit.

  1. Video chatting with their doctor.  1 in 4 have done it.

  1. Using a smartphone or tablet for the first time.  15%, or around 1 in 7.

  1. Attend

MONDAY NOVEMBER 2ND

  1. Legendary actor Sean Connery died in his sleep on Halloween morning.  He was 90.  His wife and son say he suffered from dementia in his later years.  Even though he acted in several movies, he’ll always be best remembered for starring in seven movies as James Bond.  Here’s a quick montage of some of his most classic lines in them.  (Just this past August, we told you that he topped the poll of Best Bond.)

  1. The Pittsburgh Steelers remained unbeaten with their 28-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday (November 1st), the last NFL team that has yet to lose a game this season. The Steelers are currently 7-0, matching their best start in franchise history from 1978.

Indianapolis Colts 41, Detroit Lions 21

Buffalo Bills 24, New England Patriots 21

Minnesota Vikings 28, Green Bay Packers 22

  1. For two months, a guy in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania hasbeen standing on a street corner six days a week, waving at drivers and holding signs that say things like, “You’re important” and “Red or Blue, I love you.”  He says he knew people were stressed about the pandemic, and the election.  So he decided to do it every morning from September 1st until Election Day.

  1. Comedian Demetri Martin always has an interesting way of looking at things.  In this case, mysteries.  (Like if he had a bookstore, the whereabouts of the mystery section would be “a damn good question.”)

A ticket holder in Quebec won Friday night’s $55 million Lotto Max jackpot.

There were also five MaxMillion prizes of $1 million each up for grabs, and two of them were claimed by lottery players in Quebec and British Columbia.

Another B.C. player claimed the draw’s runner up prize of just under $1.1 million. The next Lotto Max draw tomorrow will be $14 million.

Someone in B.C. won the $6 million 6/49 draw Saturday. Next draw Wednesday will be $5 million

Who Did a Better Halloween Video . . . Jason Aldean or Kelsea Ballerini?

Who did a better Halloween video . . . JASON ALDEAN or KELSEA BALLERINI?  Jason’s is a parody of an “I Saw a Tiger” music video with him dressed as Joe Exotic.

He strums an acoustic guitar and frolics in a field with his wife Brittany, who plays one of his “friends.”  It also stars their two-year-old son Memphis dressed as a tiger, and their one-year-old daughter Navy as Carole Baskin.

He ends it with a monologue about 2020 being a crazy year.  There’s the coronavirus, we can’t go to a country music show . . . sports are messed up, his Atlanta Braves didn’t get to the World Series . . . and it’s all because of one person, Carole Baskin.

Kelsea Ballerini’s video is a like a day-in-the-life of a Karen.  She gives hair gel tips, calls her kids’ school asking for a favor, sends a steak back at a restaurant because it’s not cooked right, has a margarita night, and then heads off on a “girls getaway.”

The CMAs Are Not Doing the Virtual Thing, Everyone Will Be Gathered Together in One Room

If there’s a massive COVID-19 outbreak in country music a few weeks from now, THIS might be the cause . . .

The Country Music Association announced that next month’s CMAs will NOT be virtual . . . they’re gathering everyone “together, safely, in one room, for the first time this year.”

They insist that it will be a, quote, “fully safe and physically distant environment” . . . but it’s unclear how they can guarantee that, especially since the coronavirus is still raging throughout the country.

In any event, the first round of performers have been announced.  Hosts Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker will take the stage together, and Darius will also take the stage with Lady A.

Other performers will include:  Gabby Barrett with Charlie PuthEric ChurchLuke CombsFlorida Georgia LineMiranda LambertAshley McBrydeMaren MorrisRascal Flatts, and Thomas Rhett.

The CMAs will broadcast live from Nashville’s Music City Center Wednesday, November 11th on ABC.

CHRIS JANSON TAPS FATHER, FATHER-IN-LAW FOR ‘WAITIN’ ON 5′ VIDEO

Chris Janson has released the video for his latest single, “Waitin’ On 5.” The clip was filmed at the Highland Rim Speedway in Greenbrier, TN and it features Chris’ father, who fills his real-life role as an auto body painter, as well as his father-in-law.

“Waitin’ On 5” is an ode to the working man, a subject that Chris knows a lot about. He tells us: [“I wrote this for people like that. I mean, I wrote it for 9 to 5 people which is like the majority of the world, and, heck, I’ve been there (laughs). I’ve been that guy a time or two so I know exactly what it’s like. Those are my buddies. My buddies are working class blue collar heroes and so I try to just kind of make music for people that I know, the things that I know, people that I love and people that I’m around on a daily basis.”]

“Waitin’ On 5” was released last month and follows up Chris’ fourth Number One hit, “Done.”
