CK Mornings

➢ Is this the next “Baby Shark”?  It’s called “The Fliep Flap” mix and it’s big in The Netherlands.  (Hence the spelling.)  The video is a mashup of scenes that go with the song’s beat.  Some are regular people doing regular things, and some are famous clips.

(The original song is called “Borne Sange” and it’s by a guy named Sigurd Barrett.)

➢ There’s a TikTok trend right now where people are super gluing vampire teeth in their mouth . . . and it’s a terrible idea.  Not only could you POISON yourself . . . but the potential damage to your teeth is really serious.  Dentists say you could wind up destroying your enamel, damaging your gum tissue . . . or even losing teeth because you do this.

➢ What would you do for free Wi-Fi? A couple in Switzerland named their daughter Twifia after their internet service provider in order to score 18 years of free service. According to a local newspaper the internet provider, Twifi, promised free Wi-Fi for 18 years to any family that named their child Twifia of Twifius. The anonymous Swiss couple reportedly thought it was a joke, but then started to like the name. The girl’s father says the savings from not paying for internet each month will go into an account for their daughter to use once she turns 18. He also adds that Twifia is the girl’s middle name, not her first, which still counts for the promotion.

➢ A couple of women in New Mexico gave a waitress a $1200 tip.  They got the money from the “Venmo challenge” . . . that’s where you ask your social media followers to give a little, and then you leave a big tip to a stranger.

➢  An autographed copy of a rare edition of Black Panther #1, signed by the late Chadwick Boseman and Stan Lee, is going up for auction today. Nate D. Sanders Auctions has listed the rare autographed comic book with an opening bid of $8,000. Interestingly, Boseman added the number “42” next to his signature, a clear nod to trailblazing baseball player Jackie Robinson, who wore the number. Boseman portrayed him in the 2013 film, “42”.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “International Cat Day”

  • World Stroke Day”, on this day, organizations around the world have facilitated events emphasizing education, testing, and initiatives to improve the damaging effects of stroke.

  • “International Internet Day”, celebrated since 2005 to commemorate the momentous day in history, which to many, signifies the creation of the internet. On this date in 1969, the first successful electronic message was sent. The letters ‘L’ and ‘O’ were transferred from one computer to another before the connection crashed.

SAVING DAYLIGHT SAVING:
Ontario is the latest jurisdiction taking s serious look at retaining Daylight Saving Time year round. A bill to move the province to permanent daylight time has passed second reading in the legislature, and if passed, Ontario would join the Yukon Territory in ending the twice-annual event (Saskatchewan has never participated in the clock change, and remains on Central Standard Time).

Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Jeremy Roberts, who introduced the bill, says that studies show that increasing evening daylight hours would encourage people to get out and do some shopping at a time when small businesses are suffering, and allow kids to get more daylight at the end of the day – making Ontario a “safer and happier place.”

One caveat: The act can only be brought into effect if neighboring jurisdictions Quebec and New York agree to adopt the practice as well. If the bill passes, the sun won’t rise in southern Ontario until around 9 a.m. in the later part of December, resulting in a dark commute to work and school.

YOUR DOG COMMUNICATES WITH YOU BY WAGGING ITS TAIL

If you think your dog wagging its tail always indicates happiness, think again. Lynn Buzhardt is a veterinary consultant for VCA Animal Hospitals, and says dogs will often wag their tails if they feel threatened, anxious, insecure, interested, curious, or friendly.

To figure out what emotion is being expressed, you have to look at three factors: wag position, wag speed, and context. A 2013 study found a strong right-sided wag (tail wagging more to the right than the left) reflects positive emotions, while a strong left-sided wag reflects negative emotions. If the tail is up it indicates dominance and assertion, and when it’s down it indicates submission.

The faster or slower the dog wags their tail, the higher the level of the appropriate emotion. Tail wagging is also a social indicator—meaning a dog won’t wag their tail unless they’re around other dogs or humans.

Also, dogs are not born knowing how to wag, it’s something they learn from their littermates that they then use to communicate with them, as well as their mother.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 29TH

  1. Russian mask mandate, and Kim Kardashian’s private island birthday party.  (From Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday, October 28, 2020.)

  1. Major League Baseball said Wednesday (October 28th) that L.A. Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner violated the COVID protocols when he came back on the field to celebrate with his teammates after they won the World Series Tuesday night, including posing for the team photo, and refused directives from security to leave the field. Turner had been pulled after the seventh inning of the Series-winning game after his test came back positive. MLB said it’s starting a full investigation.

The six-game World Series between the champion L.A. Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays had an average TV rating 32 percent below the previous low for a World Series. The games on Fox averaged a 5.2 rating, and the previous low was 7.6 for the San Francisco Giants’ four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers in 2012.

Next year’s Boston Marathon is being postponed, with organizers saying yesterday (October 28th) that it won’t be run on its traditional Patriots Day date in April because of the coronavirus pandemic for a second straight year. The organizers said the marathon would be postponed at least until next fall. This year’s Boston Marathon was originally postponed from April to September, but then canceled altogether two months later.

MIRANDA LAMBERT

It’s been a year since Miranda Lambert put out “Wildcard”, but she just released a behind-the-scenes video, which also features her producer Jay Joyce. She says, quote, “Of all the albums I’ve made, [‘Wildcard’] is the one that I’ve over-thought the least. I just had confidence in the process . . . But I just believe in it, because that’s my job, is to just say, ‘Here’s my story, hope y’all have one similar.'”

Here’s Why Halloween Will Be “Business as Usual” for Justin Moore’s Family

Most people are going to have a different Halloween experience this year.  JUSTIN MOORE is not one of them.  He and his wife have four kids, and they live in Poyen, Arkansas, with a population of 290.  He thinks things will be the same.

Quote, “Where we’re from, it’s not the typical Halloween that most kids [have]  We don’t live in a neighborhood.  We drive ’em to the people who we know, like my aunts and uncles and my parents and, you know, our family, our pastor.

“Usually we have a church hayride, so it probably won’t change much for us.  We’re kind of in our own little bubble in a sense in our town, and really the surrounding communities.

“So, I have a hard time believing Halloween for us will change that much but I feel for those out there who it will, especially the kiddos.”

LADY A RELEASE DELUXE EDITION OF CHRISTMAS ALBUM THIS WEEK

Lady A is ushering in the holiday season with the release of the deluxe edition of their 2012 Christmas project, On This Winter’s Night, this Friday (Oct. 30th). The deluxe edition includes 16 songs, the original 12 tracks along with four new ones.

The four additional songs reinvented for On This Winter’s Night Deluxe are “Wonderful Christmastime,” written by Paul McCartney, “Christmas Through Your Eyes,” “Little Saint Nick” and “That Spirit Of Christmas,” the latter of which was co-written by Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott.

Charles tells us the covers on the deluxe edition met their requirement of being a little different. [“Anybody that has our Christmas record, you know there’s a lot of very family Christmas songs, and we wanted to find a couple that were familiar but there hasn’t been a ton of covers of, you know, and there really hasn’t been that many covers of ‘Little Saint Nick’ or Paul McCartney’s much at all so we thought that’d be kind of different and unique.”]

THOMAS RHETT RECALLS HALLOWEEN IN ‘TIME OUT’ AT REBA McENTIRE’S HOUSE –

Growing up as the son of Rhett Akins, who had a successful country music artist career in the 90’s, Thomas Rhett spent a lot of time around other country stars as a kid. One of his most memorable Halloweens, for example, happened at Reba McEntire‘s home where the icon actually put him in “time out.”

Thomas explains: [“Reba’s son, Shelby, I think we’re about the same age, and we were at their Halloween party one year, and I remember us racing back and forth to this barn, and I think I kept beating him in this race, and I think he was a little bit older than me and bigger than me, and he put me up against the wall, you know, around my neck, and I remember Reba coming over and snatching Shelby off of me and putting us both in time out.  I mean, I had to have been five, maybe five, to be put in time out.  I hope that I wasn’t like, nine or something and I was in time out.”]

FAST FACTS

Thomas is nominated for Male Vocalist and Musical Event of the Year for “Be A Light” at the CMA Awards on Nov. 11th in Nashville.

He shares the title of ACM Entertainer of the Year with Carrie Underwood. The two tied for the honor at last month’s ACM Awards.
