CK Mornings

➢ There’s a 76-year-old billionaire investor named Bill who lives in Laguna Beach, California.  And he’s been in a battle with his next door neighbor . . . a 56-year-old very-rich-but-slightly-less-rich guy named Mark who’s a tech entrepreneur.

Mark doesn’t like that Bill put up a 22-foot-long blue glass sculpture on his property last year and put up poles and netting up to protect it.  He says it’s blocking his view.  So he called the city to complain. And Bill got revenge on him for the complaint by . . . blasting the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song at all hours.

And now, lawsuits, charges, and restraining orders have been filed.  There’s going to be a hearing on the restraining orders and harassment charges next week.

➢ Here’s another product that dares to ask the question:  Is there anything rich people WON’T pay for?

A boutique grocery chain out of San Francisco called Bi-Rite is selling bouquets of, quote, “organic fall leaves.”  Yes, you’re buying a handful of red, orange, and yellow leaves . . . for $15.

The leaves come from maple trees on a ranch in California.  The owner of the ranch says, quote, “They are three- to five-foot-tall branches with beautiful leaves.”

➢ Instead of Halloween decorations, a guy in Nashville put a big sign in his front yard that says “2020.”  And he put another sign next to it that says, “It was the scariest thing I could think of.”

➢ The release date for the new James Bond movie has been pushed back again. “No Time To Die”, the 25th film in the iconic series was due to hit theaters next month, but the official James Bond Twitter account has announced it will now be delayed until April 2nd, 2021 “to ensure a worldwide cinematic release”. As well as being Daniel Craig’s fifth and final portrayal of 007, the film will also see Rami Malek in the role of villain Safin. It was originally scheduled to hit screens in April this year, before being pushed back to November.

➢ Play-Doh just announced a brand new product line . . . “Play-Doh for Grown Ups.”

It’s just like regular Play-Doh, but it comes in “adult” scents called “overpriced latte” . . . “mom jeans” . . . “dad sneakers” . . . “spa day” . . . “lord of the lawn” . . . and “grill king.”

The people at Hasbro say those smells are meant to be things that make adults happy.

If you’re interested, the Play-Doh is already on sale, and the six-pack of scents is just $12 . . . but it’s starting to sell out, so buy yours fast.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “National Chocolate Day”, yes, there was also a “Chocolate Day” in July and an “International Chocolate Day in September…don’t fight it. Here are five things to know about chocolate:

➢ White chocolate originates from the cocoa (cacao) plant, but it is not ‘chocolate.’
➢ Switzerland is one of the top countries for chocolate consumption. The Swiss consume about 10 kg (22 lbs) of chocolate, per person, per year.
➢ Most cocoa comes from West Africa.
➢ Allowing chocolate to melt in your mouth produces a similar reaction to that of a passionate kiss.
➢ Cocoa beans were used as currency by the Mayan and Aztec cultures. Perhaps this is where they saying “Money grows on trees” came from.

Sitting on an Exercise Ball at Work Isn’t Better for You . . . and Might Even Be Worse

A new study from the CDC found that sitting on an exercise ball instead of a chair at work isn’t ACTUALLY doing anything for your health.

In fact . . . it could make things worse.

The study found that when you sit on the ball all day, it doesn’t really do anything for your core strength or your posture . . . but it COULD lead to lower back pain.

And if you think you’re burning calories, the researchers found you’ll only burn an extra four calories an hour on a ball rather than a chair.  That’s 32 calories during your work day . . . which is basically like burning off a quarter of a single Oreo.

The researchers say exercise balls ARE good . . . for actual exercise.  But as chairs?  They’re just a gimmick and not one you need to buy in to.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. Buzz Aldrinwasn’t the first man to walk on the Moon . . . but he WAS the first person to PEE there.  He peed into a special bag in his suit while he was out on the Moon.

  1. Squirrels hibernate so hard you could juggle them without waking them up.  You SHOULDN’T juggle squirrels . . . but you could.

  1. The word “duds” in Milk Duds came about because the company that created them tried to make them perfectly round but found that was impossible . . . so all of them wound up being duds.

  1. The Vikings believed that in heaven there was a giant goat whose udders provided an unlimited supply of beer.

GOOD NEWS

How’s this for dedication?  Two cops in Michigan recently got married, but couldn’t travel or do a real honeymoon.

So they went right back to work the next day.

It happened during the riots in May, but the Grand Rapids Police Department just gave them a shout-out on Facebook.

RACCOONS EJECTED FROM INSIDE CALIFORNIA BANK

They’re masked, but they’re not the usual burglars. The Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA say personnel responded to a bank in Redwood City, California after getting a call from a bank customer who spotted two raccoons inside while using an ATM outside the building.

Bank managers let in the animal rescuers, and it took them about ten minutes to chase down the racoons before they were safely able to shoo them outside. During a brief investigation muddy raccoon prints were found on a tree outside the bank, so it’s thought the raccoons got onto the roof of the bank and then somehow got into the air ducts before falling through the ceiling tiles onto the floor of the bank.

TWO-HEADED SNAKE BROUGHT INSIDE BY FLORIDA WOMAN’S CAT

Look what the cat dragged in, or don’t, as it’s kind of terrifying. Wildlife officials in Florida say a woman called them after daughter’s cat, Olive, carried a two-headed snake into their living room. The snake is a black racer and is now in the care of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Research Institute. They note the condition is uncommon, and say the creature would be unlikely to survive in the wild due to having two independent brains, making it difficult to eat and escape from predators.

Meet the diabolical ironclad beetle, which can survive being run over by a car

Scientists are unraveling the mystery of a bug with one of the coolest names in the animal kingdom: the diabolical ironclad beetle. Phloeodes diabolicus has one of the toughest natural exoskeletons scientists have ever seen.

The insect’s armor is so durable, few predators have successfully made a meal out of it and it can even survive getting run over by a car. In compression tests, researchers found the beetle can withstand a force of about 39,000 times its body weight” the equivalent of a 200-pound man enduring the weight of 7.8 million pounds.

PARENTS LETTING KIDS TRICK-OR-TREAT AT JUST 5 HOUSES ON AVERAGE THIS YEAR

A survey of 2,000 adults, half of them parents, finds most will be extra careful this Halloween, but still intend to celebrate.

In fact, 75 percent of parents say they’re taking their kids trick-or-treating, but that on average, they’ll only let their child knock on five doors for treats. A third of parents say the house they do allow their kids to trick-or-treat at will be those of neighbors they know and have already checked in with to make sure they’ve tested negative for COVID-19.

One more finding: 38 percent say they’re excited to take a year off from handing out treats this year, even though they plan to buy them, as they are saving more treats for themselves.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 28TH

  1. The L.A. Dodgersbeat the Tampa Bay Rays 3 – 1 to win the World Series last night, and Corey Seager was named the most valuable player.  Oh, and Justin Turner was removed in the middle of the game after testing positive for COVID-19, which is appropriate for this crazy season.

After last night’s win, legendary Dodgers and MLB announcer Vin Scully tweeted, “55, 59, 63, 65, 81, 88, and now 2020.  What a year.  What a season.  What a team.  Congratulations Dodgers.”  Just think, he was there for ALL of those World Series wins, except this one.  It was nice he was mentioned by Joe Buck right before the end of the game, and by the Dodgers owner.  (From the “World Series” on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.)

  1. A guy in Florida wasarrested after he got drunk, stole a backhoe, and drove around digging up Biden campaign signs in people’s yards.  He’s facing several charges, including grand theft auto.

  1. A 48-year-old guy from Long Island named Scott Cohen almostdied of COVID in April.  But he got plasma from a woman named Abbie Park who’d already beaten the virus.  And her antibodies helped him beat it too.  They just met up in person for the first time on Tuesday, and he thanked her for saving his life.

  1. Here’s Comedian Demitri Martin on dogs and Halloween.

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Are Engaged

GWEN STEFANI and BLAKE SHELTON are engaged.  Gwen posted a picture of herself yesterday, kissing Blake and showing off her ring.  She captioned it, “Yes please!”

Blake posted the same picture and wrote, “Thanks for saving my 2020 . . . And the rest of my life.  I love you.  I heard a YES!”

Gwen and Blake fell in love five years ago on the set of “The Voice” in 2015.  They were both fresh out of their previous marriages . . . Gwen to GAVIN ROSSDALE, and Blake to MIRANDA LAMBERT.  This will actually be Blake’s THIRD marriage.

Gwen is 51, Blake is 44.  Their musical collaborations since they’ve been in love are:  Go Ahead and Break My Heart . . . You Make It Feel Like Christmas . . . Nobody But You . . . and Happy Anywhere.

And as for songs that were inspired by each other, Gwen told Jimmy Kimmel that Make Me Like You is about Blake.  And the press release for Blake’s hit Turnin’ Me On says “it’s not hard to figure out who the song is about.”

JAMESON RODGERS IS ENGAGED TO LONGTIME GIRLFRIEND

Jameson Rodgers popped the question to his longtime girlfriend, Sarah Allison Turner, on Wednesday (Sept. 30th) night at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Jameson and Sarah began dating five years ago.

Jameson sits inside the Top Five and climbing with his latest single, “Some Girls.” While the song’s subject matter pertained at one point in his life, Jameson is clearly in a much happier place. He tells us: [“‘Some Girls’ is a song I fell in love with a few years ago. The song was written about the stage after a breakup where it can sometimes be very difficult to find some closure and this is something I’ve definitely been through but thankfully I survived and get to sing about it now.”]

Along with making his own music, Jameson has written hits for  Florida Georgia Line (“Talk You Out of It”), Chris Lane (“I Don’t Know About You”) and Luke Bryan (“Born Here Live Here Die Here”)

RASCAL FLATTS HOPE THEY ARE REMEMBERED FOR THEIR ‘SOUND’

Rascal Flatts celebrates their 20th anniversary as a band with the release of Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts – The Greatest Hits on Friday (Oct. 2nd).  The project includes 20 of their biggest hits and fan favorite songs throughout their career, some of which were considered too pop for country music at the time the trio arrived on the scene back in 2000.

Gary Levox tells us[“Something that we are real proud of, I think we opened the door for a lot of new artists doing the kind of music that you even hear today, 20 years later – the Dan & Shay’s.  Because there was no sound like the sound that we had when we came in, in 2000.  You know, it’d be nice to say that we’ve had that kind of impact.  And I think with our fans, the greatest thing that we hear continuously is that the music that we’ve written or that we cut, we have told their life story through Rascal Flatts music, and that is the greatest reward as an artist that you could ever receive from fans.”]
