CK Mornings

➢ There’s only one Blockbuster left that’s still operating, and most of ones that went out of business have been turned into other things, like Spirt Halloween stores and vape shops.

But there’s a Blockbuster in Georgian Bluffs, Ontario that shut down in 2011 but still looks just like a Blockbuster . . . it has the classic sign, the blue and yellow awnings, and everything.

So now there’s a petition going around to preserve it forever as a MUSEUM.  It has more than 1,800 signatures so far.

➢ A 17-year-old girl in Texas just earned two Guinness world records, one for longest legs in the world (for a female) and one for longest legs on a teenager.  Both of her legs are over four feet, four inches long.  She’s six-foot-10.

➢Remember this guy from last month?  88-year-old Brad Hathaway of Massachusetts has been on a mission to walk 24,901 miles . . . the exact circumference of the Earth.  And he finally hit his goal.  He had to walk three miles a day for 22 years to do it.

➢ Warner Bros is delaying the release of “Dune” and “The Batman” movies, another setback for the entertainment industry hit by COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and social distancing measures that have closed theatres worldwide. The movie industry received a jolt when Cineworld, the world’s second-biggest cinema chain, said it would close its U.K. and U.S. movie theatres, blaming the decision on the reluctance of studios to go ahead with major releases. “Dune” is now scheduled to open in October 2021, instead of December, while the release of “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson, has been moved from Oct. 2021 to the spring of 2022.

➢ It’s October 21st, also known as “Back to the Future” Day.  In case you don’t know what that means, it’s the day in the future that Doc and Marty McFly travel to in “Back to the Future 2”.  (It was 2015, but movie fans continue to celebrate each year)

TODAY IS……………….

  • “International Day of the Nacho”, celebrating the popular snack food that originated in Mexico. First created circa 1943 by Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya while working at a restaurant called the Victory Club in Piedras Negras, original nachos consisted of fried tortilla chips covered with melted cheese and jalapeño peppers.

COUNTRY MUSIC NOTE

2007    Rascal Flatts were at #1 on the album chart with their fifth studio album, Still Feels Good. The album produced five singles, the first of which was “Take Me There”, co-written by Kenny Chesney, and reached #1 on the country charts in mid-2007.

HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT:
⇒ Sheets:  Bedding should be washed at least once every two weeks, weekly if you sweat a lot at night. And you’ve been sick or down with the flu, sheets should be washed immediately.

⇒ Toothbrush:  Every three to four months, sooner if the bristles look worn out.

⇒ Bath loofah:  Can you imagine all the bacteria on those things? If you have a natural loofah, you should swap it every 3-4 weeks. If you use a plastic one, you can get 2 months out of it.

⇒ Kitchen sponge:  Every week. Researchers found that bacteria that can cause foodborne disease stay on sponges or scrubbers even if they’ve been cleaned in the microwave or in boiling water.

⇒ Dish towel:  Every time it’s used. Bacteria grows on it very rapidly.

⇒ Yoga mat:  Good news – You don’t need to replace it regularly as long as you clean it properly

⇒ Contact lens case:  Every 3 months in order to prevent infections.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. In ancient Persia, people debated ideas twice:  Once when they were sober, once when they were drunk.  The idea had to sound good in BOTH states before they’d start acting on it.

  1. No one knows exactly how long days are on Saturn because there are thousands of miles of clouds blocking the view.  The best estimate is that the days are about 10-and-a-half hours.

  1. Only one former cast member has ever been banned from hosting “Saturday Night Live”again . . . Chevy Chase.  Mainly for being a jerk to the cast and crew.

  1. The most popular fruit worldwide is the tomato. If you don’t consider tomato a fruit, it’s the banana.

GOOD NEWS

A dad in New York and a dad in Los Angeles don’t know each other but they have adopted the same strategy for helping us all in these trying times.

The answer is: dad jokes. The cornier the better. They’re posting their immortal zingers on lawn signs to give us all a giggle (or a groan).  Some examples:

  • What’s the difference between a tick and the Eiffel Tower? No difference. They’re both PARIS SITES.

  • What’s the best thing about Switzerland? Well, the flag’s a BIG PLUS.

  • Did you hear about the new restaurant on the moon? The food is out of this world but there is NO ATMOSPHERE!

Just Good Old-Fashioned Cops

You could visit some corners of the Chicago Police Department and see a scene right out of the old sitcom “Barney Miller.”

They’re still using old-fashioned IBM typewriters in some departments.

That’s according to Keith Bebonis, one of the nation’s last typewriter repairmen, who has a contract to keep the old machines in working order.

A police spokesman, interviewed by the Chicago Sun-Times insisted that most of the city’s police officers never use a typewriter to complete their paperwork.

However, they are still used to fill out missing-person forms, towed-vehicle forms and search-warrant logs, among other chores.

THAI NATIONAL PARK WILL MAIL TRASH BACK TO LITTERBUGS WHO DROP IT

Every national park should do this. Khoa Yai National Park, in Thailand, is a popular tourist destination, but officials say they’re tired of litter ruining the site’s natural beauty and endangering the animals that live there.

Environmental Minister Varawut Silpa-archa has come up with a novel solution.

He posted a photo to social media showing plastic bottles, cans and chip bags that had been collected and packaged up, ready to be returned to the litterbug who dropped it, with a note reading, “You forgot these things.”

The minister also added that anyone caught littering could face up to five years in jail and a hefty fine.

Visitors to the park must now register their home address before entering, and anyone caught littering can expect to have their trash mailed back to them and be reported to local police.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21ST

  1. The L.A. Dodgers beat the Tampa Rays, 8 to 3, in Game 1 of the World Series last night.

“2020 World Series” (FOX, SN): Game 2, Tampa Bay Rays vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

  1. Today is International Dayof the Nacho!  It was declared as such on this day in 1975, in honor of the supposed inventor of the nacho, Mexican chef and maître d’ Ignacio Anaya.  As the story goes, in 1943 a group of U.S. Army wives went to a restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico, for a meal. Because the pantry had dwindled to tortillas and cheese, the frantic maître d’—nicknamed Nacho—heated the tortillas, broke them up, melted cheese on top, and added sliced jalapeño peppers.  His creation was called Nachos Especiales.

  1. It’s October 21st, also known as “Back to the Future” Day.  In case you don’t know what that means, it’s the day in the future that Doc and Marty McFly travel to in “Back to the Future 2”.  (It was 2015, but movie fans continue to celebrate each year)

  1. Here’s Jerry Seinfeld, who LOVED Halloween as a kid, but like all of us, had some issues with the costumes.

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman Were Caught Mocking an NFL Pregame Flyover

Fox broadcasters JOE BUCK and TROY AIKMAN don’t like the military pre-game flyovers at NFL games.

They were caught on a hot mic MOCKING the display before the Green Bay Packers / Tampa Bay Bucs game on Sunday.

For starters, yes, flyovers are very expensive.  The exact costs aren’t public, but various reports estimate that it’s in the neighborhood of $450,000, which is almost HALF A MILLION each time.

But people have debated military flyovers for years now.  It isn’t something new.

The Air Force and the Navy always downplay it, saying that taxpayers incur “no additional cost,” because, quote, “pilots must execute a minimum number of flight hours to maintain proficiency.”

Of course, the key word there is “ADDITIONAL” cost.

A few former Air Force pilots online have dismissed the notion that there was any training involved in flyovers . . . and the general consensus is that they’re meant to give the country the FEELS, and serve as a recruitment ad for the military.

TIM McGRAW SAYS WIFE FAITH HILL URGED HIM TO RELEASE ‘I CALLED MAMA’

As Tim McGraw celebrates another big hit with “I Called Mama,” he tells us that his superstar wife, Faith Hill had a lot to do with its release: [When everybody was going back and forth, even my daughters, about songs, Faith really, she was like a hand that weighed in big time on this song and said, ‘You know, that song will mean a lot to people.’  And for her, having three daughters and having her as their role model, I feel as a dad so fortunate that they can look to her as a guidepost for their life as women.  She’s just a special lady and so, when she puts her hand on something, it’s almost like it’s hard to not listen to her for sure.]

FAST FACTS

The song is currently in the top 5 on the charts.

Tim and Faith are celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary this week.
