CK Mornings

➢A drunk California couple was trying to board a plane at Miami International Airport when they were stopped due to the woman being shoeless.  She got so mad, she started to jump over the counter, before the guy she was with stopped her.  They left and were soon arrested after struggling with police.  Here’s the incident that was caught on camera, and them being interviewed by a TV reporter when they left jail.

➢ Are forever batteries in our near future?  ComicBook.com reported that the timeless battery has been developed.  A Game Boy, for instance, can get power from solar energy and button pushing.  Here’s the spokesperson for the development team, who says that the technology can be used for much more than handheld games.

➢A diamond found in Northern Ontario two years ago has sold for a record price in an online auction, to an unnamed buyer who paid $15.7 million for the flawless, colourless gem.

The stone, which was cut from a 271-carat rough diamond found in a now closed mine near Timmins in 2018, was highly touted for its D colour and flawless status, which means it is considered to be as close to a perfect, naturally occurring diamond as is possible.

The stone, which is about the size and shape of an egg was purchased by an unnamed Japanese man who bought the stone for his second daughter and prompty renamed it after her —The Maiko Star. He had previously bought a 88.22-carat diamond for his other daughter last year.  In addition to setting on online record, the diamond is also the most expensive Canadian diamond ever sold, in any form.

➢ If you’re helping your kids with their home-schooling these days, here’s something to keep in mind: The average parent’s science and math knowledge taps out around the sixth-grade level, according to new research. When asked to estimate the grade they’d be placed into for both math and science if they took a test today, the average respondent said sixth grade for each. The survey of 2,000 American parents of school-aged children also found 42% of parents said they would be “lost” trying to teach their child the math curriculum for their grade.

➢ So you say you’re a massive “Silence of the Lambs” fan?  Well, here’s an opportunity to prove it:  The home of serial killer Buffalo Bill is up for sale.

It’s in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, which is about an hour south of Pittsburgh . . . and it’s on the market for $298,500.

The home was built in 1910 and still has many of its original features, including trim and hardwood floors which are seen in the movie. However, you won’t find a pit with a bucket in the basement—that was filmed at a sound stage.

Man Faces Two Years In Prison For TripAdvisor Reviews

An American, working in Thailand, faces two years in prison for posting negative reviews on TripAdvisor.

The Sea View Resort claims Wesley Barnes launched a barrage of complaints against them after his stay, forcing them to take legal action.

His reviews accused the hotel of “modern day slavery” and claimed the resort staff was “unfriendly.”He was arrested by immigration police and returned to the island of Koh Chang for a brief detention.

The Sea View told the New Zealand Herald, “We chose to file a complaint to serve as a deterrent, as we understood he may continue to write negative reviews week after week for the foreseeable future.”

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. The word “whiskey” comes from a Gaelic phrase that translates to “water of life.”

  1. The first Got Milk adwas directed by Michael Bay.  A history expert has to answer “Who shot Alexander Hamilton?” to win a radio contest, but he can’t say Aaron Burr because he’s been eating peanut butter and needs milk.

  1. In the “X-Men”movie in 2000, the mansion where Professor Xavier lived and trained his mutant students is the same mansion where they filmed “Billy Madison”.  It’s called Parkwood Estate, and it’s just outside Toronto.

  1. In 1893, a Congressman proposed a Constitutional amendment that would rename the country to the “United States of Earth.”  Obviously, it didn’t pass.

GOOD NEWS

A history teacher in Austin took distance learning to a whole new level last month by crisscrossing the U.S. and doing virtual history lessons from the locations where they happened.

She drove 3,000 miles and hit a bunch of spots like Gettysburg, the Lincoln Memorial, and Colonial Williamsburg.

She says she stayed safe and socially distanced from others and was just looking for a way to make this very weird school year a little more fun and interesting for students.

Police Busting a Drug Ring Find a Thorough “How-To” Manual for the Entire Operation

There are just some businesses where it’s NOT a good idea to document all of your processes and workflows.

A few months ago, the cops in Winnipeg, Manitoba raided a major drug trafficking ring that was operating out of two homes.  They found fentanyl, guns, cash, and jewelry.

But they just revealed they also found something else.  The people behind the drug ring had written a 21-page “how-to” instruction manual.  It had info on how to get the drugs, how to sell and distribute them, and how to collect money.

Oh, and it also included a section on how to avoid getting caught by the police.  They’ll probably need to revise that section.

A 26-year-old man, 27-year-old man, and 29-year-old man are all facing several charges for the drug ring.

Man’s Attempt to Break His Wife Out of Jail in a Helicopter Goes Wrong

There’s a 24-year-old guy named Mike Gielen in Brussels, Belgium.  And on Friday, he came up with a plan to break his 27-year-old wife Kristel Appelt out of PRISON, where she was locked up on suspicion of murdering her ex-boyfriend.

So Mike booked a helicopter tour . . . then threatened the pilot with a fake gun and made him fly to the prison.  Mike’s plan was to land in the yard, have Kristel hop aboard, and then fly away to freedom.

But it didn’t go down like that.  First, Mike wasn’t ready for the motion sickness you can get during a helicopter ride, and he started throwing up out of the helicopter door.  Second, the pilot didn’t have room to land in the prison yard.

And finally, Mike booked the helicopter tour under his real name . . . so he was arrested within 24 hours when the cops found him at his father’s house.

He’s facing several charges, including theft with violence, participation in a criminal organization, and attempted escape.

GETTING INTO HOT WATER:
One of the great pleasures for some people, especially in COVID times when you might be seeing a bit TOO much of your loved ones, is to close the bathroom door, light some scented candles, pour some nice wine, and soak in a hot bath. That’s probably a good idea, because now scientists are saying that by enjoying a hot bath (or a hot tub) regularly, you could be setting yourself up for significant health benefits.

A Japanese study of 1,300 people with type-2 diabetes found that in addition to relaxing us and, you know, cleaning us, baths may be a vital tool capable of staving off cardiovascular diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. How do baths benefit our health?

The study author thinks we may benefit from heat therapy similar to the way we benefit from exercise. Previous studies have suggested that heat stimulation could improve insulin sensitivity and enhance energy expenditure, which also happens during exercise. Bathing also increases blood circulation, body temperature, and the production of nitric oxide, which are all good things.

The Falcons Will Use Drones to Clean Their Stadium

The Atlanta Falcons will allow SOME fans to attend games starting on October 11th . . . so how will they safely and thoroughly clean the stadium in the middle of a pandemic?

They could have workers carefully wiping down each of the 71,000 seats, or they can have a couple of DRONES flying over the seats, spraying them down, like crop-dusters.  The Falcons are trying the latter.

They posted a video of a drone cleaning the seats, and it looks cool.  Two drones will be used to disinfect the stadium’s seating bowl, handrails, and glass partitions. The drones will allow for a 95% reduction of the time needed to clean the seats.

KENNY CHESNEY, KEITH URBAN REMEMBER ROCK LEGEND EDDIE VAN HALEN

Kenny Chesney took to social media after learning of the death of rock legend, and Van Halen co-founder Eddie Van Halen, calling him “a friend and a hero.”

In 2006, Eddie Van Halen and brother Alex joined Kenny and his band onstage at a show in Los Angeles and Kenny commented: “I will never forget that night and how happy we both were that our musical paths crossed that night on stage.”

Many other country artists posted their regrets. This from Keith Urban: “This hit me hard. There are lots of great guitar players in the world, but very VERY few true innovators.”  And Brad Paisley wrote: “Eddie, your influence will live on forever.”

Eddie Van Halen was 65 and died on Tuesday October 6 of throat cancer.

Did you know that Eddie and his brother Alex Van Halen had years of classical piano lessons?

It was on their mother’s insistence.  Here’s Eddie, telling the story of how he could never read music, but was talented enough to play it anyway.

CARLY PEARCE LEARNING TO STRIKE A BALANCE

Like many artists, Carly Pearce’s music gives some insight into what’s going on in her personal life. On the heels of a very public romance and, ultimately, divorce, Carly tells us she’s learning how to find a balance when it comes to what she shares with fans. [“I think I’m learning that.  I think you have to fail to figure it out, and I think I’ve probably exploited too much of certain parts of my life and probably kept some things private, and I think that in the lyrics of my songs I’m giving you a hundred percent of who I am.  It’s the only way I know how to emote and it’s the only way that I want to write songs because it’s the only way that I can really say, this is who I am.  You’re getting a hundred percent of my story.  I hope that you can relate and that I can be a vessel for you.”]

Carly’s latest single is called “Next Girl.” She recently wrote on Instagram, “This song is more than a song to me. It’s a new beginning for me in every way . . .”

Carly is set to perform on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Oct. 10th.
