CK Mornings

➢ U.S. President Donald Trump and the First Lady Melania have confirmed they have the COVID 19.  It is assumed that they have contracted it from Hope Hicks, counselor to the President.  Several sources say she had symptoms prior to being tested.  She traveled with the President to several recent events including the debates and almost no one in the President’s inner circle wears a mask.

The medical contributor for Fox News talked about how President Trump is “heavier” and how being overweight, and over 70, can worsen a Covid “problem.”

➢ Coyote Peterson . . . that guy on YouTube who endures the most painful insect stings on Earth . . . reportedly makes $300,000 a month off ads on his videos.  Here he is getting bitten by the Giant Desert Centipede.

➢ Are forever batteries in our near future?  ComicBook.com reported that the timeless battery has been developed.  A Game Boy, for instance, can get power from solar energy and button pushing.  Here’s the spokesperson for the development team, who says that the technology can be used for much more than handheld games.

➢ A McDonald’s worker in the U.K. recently went viral when she was filmed paying for a customer’s order because of a nice gesture he made while ordering. It turns out this worker regularly pays for meals as a way of rewarding kind or thoughtful behavior. Enya Vegnere only gets paid about $9 per hour working at a McDonald’s in Coventry, England, but that doesn’t stop her from using her own money to help out certain customers. By her own account, she’s spent about $64 since she started working at the restaurant in January.

➢ The Nashville Film Festival will celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of the release of

“O Brother, Where Art Thou?” with an online reunion of cast members, plus performances from artists who appeared on the soundtrack, and others. George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson and Chris Thomas King will be getting the old chain gang back together for the event, which is part of the festival’s virtual proceedings planned for Oct. 1-7.

TODAY IS……………….

“Custodial Workers Day”, honoring those who clean up after the rest of us.

FUNNIEST TWEETS OF THE WEEK FROM PARENTS:
⇒ My tween is mad at me and it could be because of any number of horrible things I did this morning: stood in the kitchen, poured coffee, stared out the window, said good morning, breathed… -@mommajessiec

⇒ in a recent study 100 toddlers were surveyed about what they hate the most. 100 out of 100 said “clean windows”. -@dadmann_walking

⇒ If any of you have 3 hours to kill, our youngest has a great story about how she picked her favorite color. -@RodLacroix

⇒ My 10yo rejected a pair of socks because she could “feel the polka dots” if you’re wondering what the girl from The Princess and the Pea is up to these days. -@copymama

⇒ That feeling of relief when your kid is dressed up for pajama day and you see another kid in pajamas at drop off. -@simoncholland

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. A lion’s roar is louder than a jackhammer.
  2. People in Costa Rica are only allowed to drive six days a week, to cut down on traffic and pollution.  The last digit of your license plate number dictates what day you’re not allowed on the road.

  1. It’s illegal to own a pet hamster in Hawaii.  The climate is too good for hamsters . . . so if a few ever escaped, they could start wild colonies that would devastate Hawaii’s native crops.

  1. There are 29 million tons worth of spiders on Earth right now . . . and based on the amount they eat, in theory, they could eat every single human on the planet in one year.

Added up, all the spiders in the world consume somewhere between 400 million and 800 million tons of prey every year . . . while all the humans on Earth weigh around 300 million tons.

GOOD NEWS

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said Adrian Olmstead of Blenheim was overcome with emotion upon discovering he was holding the only winning ticket for the whopping $70 million Lotto Max jackpot from the April 14 draw.

The new millionaire plans to buy a new home with “lots of land” so his children have plenty of room to play and will take care of his mother. He also wants to splurge on a couple of “toys” for the family such as an RV, so they can travel across Canada and wants to have a new fishing boat in tow on those adventures.

“The most important thing to me has always been to provide for my family. I can now do that in ways I never dreamed of before,” said Olmstead. “This money can even ensure a good fortune for my future grandchildren.”

The winning ticket was bought at the Petro Canada/Double Seven Gas Bar on Chatham Street in Blenheim.

DRIVER’S EDUCATION:
If you’re looking to impress a potential partner, you might want to brush up on your driving skills.

More than half of drivers (56 %) say they would not date someone they thought was an unsafe driver, according to a study.

And 18% of respondents said they’ve actually dumped a partner because of their driving habits.

The survey of 2,000 American drivers conducted by OnePoll found that 78% agree that how a person drives says a lot about their personality. Other findings:

  • 46% said that drivers who follow the rules of the road are more trustworthy.
    • 52% view drivers who take care of their cars as responsible.
    • 75% view drivers who don’t wear their seatbelts as reckless.
    • 61% said if a driver was excessively speeding, it would cause them to never get in the car with them again.
    • 36 % have refused to be driven by a friend due to their poor driving habits.

TENNIS, ANYONE?
If you’re looking for a really good workout to get your heart pumping and strengthen your legs, arms and your core, you can’t do much better than tennis.

That’s according to a study by scientists at Harvard, who call it one of the “most perfect workouts”. They found that because tennis matches incorporate a lot of bursts of energy coupled with moments of rest, it’s considered an “HIIT”, or “high-intensity interval training.”

Tennis and other racquet sports boost cardiovascular health because you engage your core, upper and lower-body muscle groups. A tennis match also burns twice the amount of energy you would during your nightly brisk quarantine stroll.

A separate Australian study found that tennis also contributes to better aerobic capacity, lower resting heart rate and blood pressure, enhanced metabolic function, increased bone density and lower body fat. Need more? It also improves flexibility and quickens reflexes.

Reasons You Should Smile Today . . . Even If You Don’t Feel Like It

Today is World Smile Day, and a lot of us need to celebrate it this year more than ever.  So here are five reasons YOU should smile today, even if you don’t really feel like it . . .

  1. It’s contagious.  According to scientific research, our brains have a tendency to mimic people we’re talking to.  So if YOU smile, THEY’RE more likely to smile too.

  1. It can boost your mood . . . even if you’re faking it.  There’s an idea in psychology called the “facial feedback hypothesis,” and it suggests that forcing a smile even when we don’t feel like it can be enough to lift our mood slightly.

  1. It can make you feel better physically, too.  Science has found that a big, genuine smile can boost your immune system, decrease cortisol in your body, reduce blood pressure, and release endorphins, all of which can make you feel better.

  1. It makes you sound friendly.  Smiling when you talk on the phone or on a Zoom call makes you sound happier, friendlier, and more engaging.

DARIUS RUCKER IS BRINGING ‘BEERS AND SUNSHINE’ TO THE PANDEMIC

Darius Rucker‘s latest single, “Beers And Sunshine,” is his attempt to lighten up the mood during the current global pandemic. He tells us that while others are creating more somber music these days, Darius and his co-writers wanted to do just the opposite during a Zoom writing session. [“We’d probably been locked down for a couple months and everybody was stir crazy and we were talking about just how everybody wanted to just get out and do something, and we knew there was gonna be a whole bunch of songs — a bunch of ballads and a bunch of really serious songs about what’s going on, but just the way we are and the way I am, I guess, we wanted to write something that was fun and upbeat and when we got that line, ‘the only B.S. I need is beers and sunshine,’ I knew we had our song.”]

The song is the first single from Darius’ upcoming studio album.

There are also clips of JOHN and T.J. OSBORNE performing on stage in regular clothes, and in what looks like glow-in-the-dark Halloween costumes.

The “All Night” video is set to make its broadcast debut TONIGHT as it will be featured in the opening segment and during ESPN’s Friday Night college football programming (ESPN2, 8pm CT). The song will also be featured throughout the season on ESPN/ABC college football programming.

THE EAGLES

Florida Georgia Line – They’ve collaborated with a lot of artists, but there’s one legendary country-rock ensemble that’s still on their wish list. Singer Brian Kelley says it would “be a dream come true” for him to sing with the Eagles — even more so now that Vince Gill is a member.

Want to hear some early released live Eagles?  They would’ve been on a sold-out U.S. Tour right now.  But if you can’t see them live, the next best thing is their new live album, “Live From the Forum MMXVIII” (2018).

It features 26 live songs from the current line-up and comes out on October 16th.  They’ve released two tracks early, “Hotel California”, and this one, featuring Vince Gill on lead vocals.

Here’s some of “Lyin’ Eyes”, performed by Vince Gill, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, and Deacon Frey.
