CK Mornings

➢ The owner of a bar in Elgin, Texas is banning masks.  If you have a mask on, you can’t come in.  Instead, he put up a sign that says people who feel like masks are necessary should just stay home.  And he’s telling customers to maintain six feet of distance.  He says it’s his way of pushing back against the, quote, “snitch patrols.”  (Elgin is a very small town east of Austin.)

➢ John Rich says his Redneck Riviera Bar in Nashville does offer customers masks when they enter, but they’re NOT required to wear one.  (His employees do wear them, and their temperature is checked every day.)

➢ His first time out of lockdown, a 4 year old British toddler managed to get stuck in a tree.

Finley Ibrahim took a trip with his mother and three brothers to a local park and quickly became lodged inside a tree-trunk hole. ”I ran over, and I just spotted the top of Finley’s face, with a hand and an arm poking out, and I was mortified at the time, thinking, ‘Oh my word, what am I going to do? says Finley’s mom, Lindsey.

Her bad back prevented her from pulling her son out, and her husband, Terry, was working at home, so she approached a random father who was also in the park and asked for help. He came over and the guy was like Spider-Man: He just sprang to the top of this tree trunk, he pulled him hard a few times and then Finley popped out the top.”

➢ A woman named Emily Canellos-Sims from Kewanee, Illinois has the new Guinness world record for the largest overdue library book fine.  She returned a poetry book called “Days and Deeds” her mother checked out back in April of 1955.

The total fine she paid was . . . $345.14.

➢ Spike Lee has released a short film showcasing police brutality with clips of the deaths of George Floyd and Eric Garner along with footage from his 1989 Oscar-nominated film “Do the Right Thing.” Lee has posted the video “Will History Stop Repeating Itself?” on his Twitter account after it originally debuted on CNN. Talking to Don Lemon, Lee said: “We are seeing this again and again and again. This is the thing, the killing of black bodies, that is what this country is built upon.”

COUNTRY MUSIC NOTE

Tim McGraw‘s “Everywhere” album was released in 1997.

Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney were arrested in Buffalo, New York, after a backstage skirmish at Ralph Wilson Stadium on the George Strait tour in 2000. Chesney took a ride on a policeman’s horse, and McGraw got in a fight with cops. They were both acquitted.

HOW ‘ZOOM FATIGUE’ CAN LEAD TO BURNOUT AND DEPRESSION

If you feel exhausted after a day of video meetings, you’re not alone.

As the pandemic continues, more and more people have reported feeling “Zoom fatigue.” It’s named after the popular video chatting platform, but is used to describe the exhaustion that comes with participating in video conferences on any platform.

Psychologists say there are various aspects of video chats that make them more difficult to handle than in-person interactions, including the fact that we cannot see the person’s full body language or other cues they give off that we process unconsciously, so our brains have to make extra effort to compensate for the missing information.

Another thing that makes video chatting tiring is the fact that we can also see ourselves on video, which makes us hyper-aware of how we’re coming off and adds a layer of self-consciousness we don’t have when we’re in a conversation face-to-face.

CBC news, in Canada, spoke to a psychology professor from Clemson University who warns that if Zoom fatigue is not addressed, it could lead to long term health consequences, including burnout and depression.

To avoid Zoom fatigue try to take work video meetings only when email or messaging won’t suffice, and remember it’s ok to pick up the phone and give your friends and family members and old-fashioned phone call.

GOOD NEWS

A 7-year-old kid in North Carolina found out his babysitter’s prom was canceled.  So he planned one for her, and asked her to be his date.  His mom helped put it together in their yard.  There was even a dinner with Chick-fil-A and an appetizer of peanut butter and apple slices.

A group of guys went fishing in Hawaii, caught a 220-pound tuna, and donated it to healthcare workers.

A construction worker in North Carolina who was behind on rent accidentally threw out his $1,200 stimulus check at a car wash.  And he didn’t even realize it was missing until an employee found it . . . tracked him down . . . and gave it back to him

WHAT SCHOOLS WILL LOOK LIKE WHEN THEY REOPEN

Learning was moved online for most schools as the crisis began, but what could they look like when they reopen?

An interview of teachers reveals their predictions. For one thing, the school week could look very different, with most students attending school two or three days a week and doing the rest of their learning at home. Inside schools, desks will be spaced apart, and some classrooms will likely expand into unused gymnasiums, libraries or art rooms—rooms that all could otherwise encourage kids to cram together.

Arrivals, dismissals, and recess are likely to happen on staggered schedules and through specific doors to promote physical distancing, and students will eat lunch at their desks.

Teachers and other staff at higher risk of contracting the virus will likely continue to each from home, and everyone will have to wash their hands a lot. Frequently-touched surfaces will also get wiped down often.

GARTH BROOKS OFFERS ENCOURAGEMENT: ‘WE’LL GET THROUGH THIS’

Garth Brooks addressed current events during his weekly Inside Studio G series on Facebook earlier this week. He shared a story of encouragement that he first experienced with his wife, Trisha Yearwood, while she was feeling disheartened by the chain of events this weekend. Garth said: [“She was saying out loud that she feels like the whole world is burning. And so I took her outside. We’re lucky enough to live in a place that’s kind of elevated and you can see around. And I take her – I said, ‘The world isn’t burning. And the reason why the world isn’t burning is because there’s a lot more people that believe in loving one another than they believe in burning the world.’ So just believe that the person next to you is a good person. We’ll get through this.”]

Garth is expected to release his new studio album, FUN!, sometime this year.

JORDAN DAVIS IS A HUGE ‘OZARK’ FAN

Jordan Davis has a new obsession compliments of Netflix. He tells us he recently binge-watched Ozark and he can’t recommend it highly enough. [“I’ve always been a Jason Bateman fan, but, it’s up there with Breaking Bad for me. I think that Ozark is one of my favorite shows out. Not a spoiler alert, but the end of Season 3, ooh, y’all are in for it if y’all haven’t seen it yet. That kind of setting just kind of brings me back to family vacations. Actually, we have a vacation to Lake Lanier in Georgia, where they shot Ozark coming up soon. I look forward to getting over there and channeling my inner Marty Byrd, if you will. (laughs)”]

He released a self-titled six-song EP in May.

FAST FACTS

All three singles from Jordan’s 2018 debut album, Home State, topped the country charts.

Those Number One hits are “Singles You Up,” “Take It From Me,” and “Slow Dance In A Parking Lot,” the latter of which claimed the top spot back in April.
