CK Mornings

➢ This happened earlier this month in Florida, but it’s viral now after getting over two million views.  A mom posted a video of herself on Facebook laughing like crazy because she had just accidentally flashed her daughter’s first grade class on Zoom.

Her three daughters were doing their virtual classes in various rooms of the house, so she snuck off for a shower.  Afterwards, she was walking across the bedroom naked to get her clothes when she heard her youngest daughter’s voice.

The girl had moved to mom’s room and was on the bed Zooming with the rest of the class.

➢ Over 20 members of a Bolivian pan flute orchestra, have been stuck at Rheinsberg Palace, a 15th century castle, outside Berlin for two months. The group arrived in Germany on March 10 expecting to perform at the MaerzMusik festival — the same day Germany announced its ban on large gatherings, swiftly followed by a full country lockdown. A week later Bolivia closed its borders — and the group was stranded at the 600-acre estate surrounded by 23 packs of wolves and haunted by the ghost of Frederick the Great. To pass the time, the group practices up to six hours a day, takes walks (looking out for wolves) and plays soccer.

➢ Thomas Waerner won this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in March, but he is still waiting to return to his home in Norway. Waerner and his 16 dogs have been stranded in Alaska by travel restrictions and flight cancellations. Waerner has five children and 35 other sled dogs in Norway. He missed the 10th birthday of one of his children and says he misses morning coffee with his wife, Guro, who left Alaska in March shortly before health restrictions stopped travel.

He plans to fly home in early June on a DC-6 aircraft bound for The Museum of Aviation History in Sola, Norway. “We are hitchhiking, the plane is going to Norway, and we are going with them. We are so lucky.”

“My wife has been taking care of 35 dogs, the kids and working as a veterinarian,” he said. Once he returns home, “‘yes, dear’ will be the answer for everything,” he said.

➢ The “Gossip Girl” reboot has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The much-anticipated new version of the drama series – which starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley – was supposed to be released on HBO Max later this year, but it’s been delayed until 2021 because of the health crisis. The makers of the show have also confirmed that the reboot will take place eight years after the events of the original series.

➢ Ariel Winter cut off the tip of her thumb while cooking.  Then, after she got to the hospital, a nurse put the piece of her thumb in a plastic bag and gave it to her, which she threw away on accident.  Here she is telling the story.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE IT?
⇒ Sheets:  You shed 500 million cells daily. Your bed is also subject to sweat, pollen, pet dander, fungi and mold. Bedding should be washed at least once every two weeks, more often if you sweat a lot at night, or if you’ve been sick.

⇒ Pillow:  It absorbs body oil, dead skin cells and hair. To help prolong its’ life, wash it every six months and add a protectant case between the pillow and cover. But it should still be replaced every one to two years.

⇒ Toothbrush (or the brush head on your electric toothbrush): Should be replaced every three to four months, sooner if the bristles look worn out.

⇒ Kitchen sponge:  Every week (!!) Bacteria that can cause foodborne disease stay on dish sponges or scrubbers even if they’ve been cleaned in the microwave or in boiling water.

⇒ Towel:  You should wash or switch your bath towel at least once a week. Dish towels – pretty much after every use.

⇒ Reusable water bottle:  To know when to replace it, look out for any foul smells you just can’t get rid of despite washing, any buildup of gunk around the mouthpiece or lid, or cracks in the plastic.

GOOD NEWS

A 10-year-old girl in Connecticut started a charity last year to send art kits to kids in foster care and underfunded schools.  She was handing out 200 kits a month, but stepped it up when the crisis hit.  She’s sent out another 1,500 kits since March.

A guy from the Isle of Man near the U.K. raised over $100,000 for charity by running 19 marathons in 19 days.

A couple in Michigan who’ve been married 70 years hadn’t been able to see each other during the pandemic, because the husband wasn’t allowed to visit the wife’s nursing home.  But being apart was having a huge impact on their health.  So the home made an exception, let him MOVE IN, and they had an emotional reunion last week.

If You’re a Picky Eater, It’s Probably Your Parents’ Fault

If you’re running out of things to blame your parents for, here’s a new one:  A recent study in the journal “Pediatrics” found that if you’re a really picky eater, it might be your parents’ fault.

Researchers tracked 300 kids and their eating habits for five years.  Their parents had to fill out a questionnaire when the kids were 4, 5, 8, and 9 years old.

Roughly 1 in 7 kids fell into the category of VERY picky eaters, where they’d refuse to eat vegetables or were really nervous about new foods.

And researchers found that kids were less likely to grow out of their picky eating habits if their parents were strict with things like cleaning their plate and eating certain foods.

They think it’s because doing that ends up creating thousands of negative experiences surrounding those foods.  And even rewarding them can backfire.

For example, telling kids they can have ice cream if they finish their broccoli can actually make them hate broccoli more.

Instead, they suggest creating pleasant experiences with foods kids won’t eat.  Like having them help you make broccoli, or showing them how much YOU like it.  And as long as you don’t force it on them, they might come around.

Some kids need to be exposed to a new food 12 times before they’ll soften up to it.  But “exposed” doesn’t mean eat it.  Just watching you eat or cook it can be enough.

  1. We’ve seen a bunch of videos of people freaking out when businesses won’t let them inside without a mask.  So someone intervieweda constitutional lawyer about it.  He explained why it’s NOT a violation of your constitutional rights.  Just like store policies that say “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service,” a business that’s operating on private property can kick people out for not wearing masks.

The Boston Marathon is officially canceled.  That ends a 124-year run that remained untouched by two World Wars, a volcanic eruption . . . and even a pandemic early in the 20th Century.

The race was originally postponed from April 20th to September 14th, but the city decided even that date wasn’t going to work.

However, there will be a VIRTUAL race, where runners who verify that they ran 26.2 miles on their own will receive a finisher’s medal.

KIP MOORE ON NEW ALBUM: ‘IT PROBES THE QUESTIONS AND MAKES YOU SEARCH’ –

Kip Moore‘s fourth studio album, Wild World, is available everywhere today (Friday, May 29th). He co-wrote all but one track of the 13 songs, and he says the project reveals an honest and insightful look at his own vulnerabilities.

Kip tells us he hopes listeners can apply some of his insight to their own lives. [“I hope that they find joy in this record the way I found joy searching for simplicities in life. I hope that it means something to them the same way it did for me. I think there’s a search for faith throughout this record and how that looks to all of us. It might take on different shapes and forms for each of us, but it definitely probes the questions and makes you search.”]

Last night (Thursday, May 28th), Kip’s new documentary, 7 Days At The Rock, premiered on Outside TV. The short film follows the singer through some of his experiences in isolation at his remote rock climbing facility, BedRock, located in Red River Gorge, Kentucky, as well as the weeks leading up to the release of the Wild World album. The documentary will be available on all major streaming platforms and devices including The Roku Channel and Samsung TV Plus.
