➢ Premier Doug Ford has announced a gradual, three-stage roadmap to reopening the province.

However, no dates have been included. At each stage, public health officials will be looking for a consistent decrease in new daily cases, and a decrease in the number of hospitalizations.

In Stage 1 some businesses will be allowed to open if they can immediately meet or modify operations to meet public health guidance. More outdoor spaces will also be allowed to open and a greater number of individuals will be able to attend some events like funerals.

Each stage is expected to last two to four weeks to evaluate how the lifted measures are affecting the spread of the virus. After a two week period, the situation will be re-evaluated to determine if it is necessary to change the course to maintain public health.

Last week, the province announced schools would be closed until at least May 31.

 

➢ Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are donating plasma to potentially help save lives, because they now carry the antibodies.

 

➢ The pandemic may have pumped the brakes on a lot of movie productions, but James Gunn, the director of DC Comics’ upcoming “Suicide Squad” reboot and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, says his films will be unaffected. Gunn was taking fan questions on his Twitter account and said that the Aug. 6, 2021, release date for The Suicide Squad is not in jeopardy because shooting has wrapped and they had already “set up editing from our homes before quarantine.”

 

➢ The more you walk, the longer you’ll live. That’s the main bit of advice from a new study that found a higher daily step count is associated with a lower mortality risk from all causes. And it’s not about intensity; you don’t have to run or jog. Just do a lot of walking. The study found that people who walked 8,000 steps per day had a 51% lower risk of dying from any cause than those who only walked 4,000 steps per day (which is considered low for an adult). Taking 12,000 steps per day was linked to a 65% lower mortality risk than 4,000 daily steps.

• “Hollywood” (DRAMA): Follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it no matter the cost. Each character offers a glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age (Darren Criss, Dylan McDermott, Jim Parsons)

According to a new survey of 2,000 Americans, you’re not old until you turn . . . 57.  That seems pretty young to me, but whatever. The survey also found the 10 most common things people worry about as they age are . . .

1. Overall health.                                 2.  Wrinkles.
2. Weight gain. 4.  Gray hair.
3. Hair loss.
4. Not being able to take care of themselves.
5. Age spots. 8.  Being seen as “old.”
6. Financial security. 10.  Losing their independence.

1. Abraham Lincolnconsidered joining the Donner Party to go to California on the Oregon Trail, but stayed in Illinois because he’d just had a child and his political career was getting going.  The Donner Party famously got stuck in the Sierra Nevada mountains and turned to cannibalism.

 

2. The phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” is based on a real family with the last name Jones.  They built a huge mansion in Rhinebeck, New York in the mid 1800s, and other rich families in the area remodeled their homes to try to match them.

 

3. Walt Disneyhas the record for winning the most Oscars total, with 22 . . . AND the record for most in one year, when he won four in 1953. Some people believe Bong Joon-ho tied Walt’s one-year record earlier this year with his film “Parasite”, but he was only credited with three Oscar wins . . . Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.  The movie also won Best International Feature, but the Oscar is credited to the country that submitted the film, which is South Korea.

 

4. There are only 44 aircraft carriers active around the world right now.  They belong to 14 different navies.

 

GOOD NEWS

➢ A bakery in Finland has saved itself from financial ruin due to the pandemic by creating a cake that looks like a toilet roll. Staff found all their orders cancelled last month, at the same time panicked consumers began to hoard toilet roll. This sparked the idea of a toilet roll cake made of oat batter, passion fruit mousse and covered with white fondant. The first five sold within an hour, and the cake became a social media hit. The bakery now has hundreds of orders and its owner has been able to hire two extra people.

 

➢ A hospital in Memphis found 27,000 old N95 masks in storage that were still usable, but the elastic bands needed to be replaced.  So a group of 400 volunteers with sewing machines got to work, and fixed 20,000 of them in a single weekend.

 

➢ A milk maker in Wisconsin put a refrigerator outside with free milk for anyone to take.  The owner says his daughters came up with the idea, and they refill it every few hours.

 

➢ A community in Indianapolis held a big welcome-home parade for a guy who beat the virus just months after beating cancer

1. Apparently a woman in D.C. was so scared of getting the virus, she pepper sprayed a bunch of people who tried to board an elevator she was on.

 

And Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing heat after he referred to his state as God’s waiting room because there are so many old people.

 

2. Officials in West Louisville, Kentucky shut down a drive-thru test center last week, and said it was a scam.  The people running it were charging $250 to get tested, but it’s not clear if the tests were even real.  As soon as people started asking questions, they packed up and left.  They claimed they were official, and that the whole thing was HIPAA-compliant, which stands for “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.”  But someone pointed out the sign they had up didn’t even spell it right.

TODAY IS National Superhero Day is April 28th…the day was thought up by employees of Marvel Comics in 1995.  There are a countless number of fictional superheroes who are honored on the day, such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, but this year, let’s not forget the ones in real life!

 

 

 

THE ACM AWARDS WILL BROADCAST FROM NASHVILLE FOR THE FIRST TIME 

The 55th Academy of Country Music Awards will broadcast from Nashville, TN for the first time in the show’s history.

This isn’t the only first for the show.  When Keith Urban hosts the Academy of Country Music Awards on September 16th, it will also be the first awards show in history to broadcast from three iconic country music venues: the Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Cafe.

The announcement was made Monday (April 27th) during Nashville Mayor John Cooper‘s daily press confrence.

As previously announced, the ACM Awards was originally scheduled to air on Sunday, April 5 and was postponed due to COVID-19. The 55th ACM Awards will be broadcast on Wednesday, Sept. 16th (live 8:00-11:00 PM ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and will stream live and on demand on CBS All Access.

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE ‘ELEVATE’ THEIR BRAND WITH JASON ALDEAN COLLABORATION

Florida Georgia Line‘s latest business venture is a collaboration with Jason Aldean, but it’s not a song. It’s their new Wolf Moon Bourbon, which both acts have been plugging on their respective social media accounts. While Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley had already expanded into the liquor business with their Old Camp Whiskey line in 2016, the decided they wanted to “elevate,” as Tyler tells us: [“It was just kind of an extension of what we already had, you know.  And we saw an opportunity to try to bring on Jason as a face of this as well, because we’ve naturally had so many nights of drinking whiskey together and hanging out, and we just thought he would be an incredible partner in this. We also wanted to elevate. We kind of had the Peach Pecan, and we had the American whiskey with Old Camp, and we thought, man, it’d be really nice to kind of do something that’s a little elevated, something a little upper shelf, and something that we can take to a super nice dinner party or it’s more of a special occasion thing.  And so we wanted to get into the bourbon business.”] SOUNDCUE (:31 OC: . . . the bourbon business.)
