This might as well have been a truck full of cash. Authorities in Texas say a truck crashed around 4 a.m. last Wednesday and burst into flames in southern Dallas County. The kicker is the cargo was a load of much sought-after toilet paper. The truck driver was not injured and told authorities that he hit a bump, lost control of the vehicle and struck a highway barrier, causing the truck to overturn. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the cargo was completely lost.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. Lamborghini originally made tractors and air conditioners before they got into cars.

  1. Sardines aren’t actually a species of fish.  There are at least 22 different types of fish that are used to make sardines.

  1. There’s only one person who’s played in a World Series AND the Masters Tournament in golf. Sammy Byrd played with the New York Yankees when they won the World Series in 1932, then quit to play golf.  Then he won 11 tournaments and finished third at the Masters in 1941.

  1. Kryptonite was invented by the people behind the Superman radio show in 1943, so Superman could just groan in pain for a few episodes . . . and the voice actor who played him could finally take a vacation.

GOOD NEWS

Brooklyn restaurateur Fred Urban says he is weeks away from shutting down his restaurant but that doesn’t mean he’s letting his elderly and homeless neighbors go hungry.

“We’re not able to keep our doors open much longer, so why throw [food] in the garbage when I can cook it and feed it to someone?” Ever since Urban’s restaurant and others across the city were forced to close for dine in he and his family have been delivering free hot meals to elderly folks too scared to leave their house and homeless people sleeping on the streets.

He’s been using Facebook to get the word out to older residents and has been driving through the neighborhood each night with 10 hot plates for the homeless — serving up everything from bratwurst, french fries, schnitzel, kielbasa and salad.

More than a dozen elderly residents have asked for help through Urban’s Facebook posts, including a regular customer in her 80s who called him, desperate for assistance.

When he showed up to deliver the food, the woman was in tears, so grateful for the help.

Urban, a native Brooklynite who has been running the restaurant for the past 14 years, said his landlord recently told him that if his rent isn’t paid next week, he has 30 days to vacate the premises.

Even though Gov. Andrew Cuomo enacted a moratorium on evictions, Urban will eventually have to pay back his landlord if he wants to keep his business open. Still, he said his decision to give back was easy.

It’s spring now, and that means many people begin to be bothered by their allergies.

Allergy symptoms can include watery eyes and scratchy throat which can be scary to see amid the on-going novel coronavirus pandemic.

In addition, forecasters are predicting a brutal spring allergy season for parts of North America at the same time the virus cases continue to rise.

It’s making those with allergies get really jumpy. Kathy Przywara manages an online community of allergy sufferers for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, and says, “Everyone is sort of analyzing every sneeze and cough right now.”

It seems most don’t care that typically allergy symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose are not usually associated with the novel coronavirus.

SUPER PINK MOON COMING APRIL 7TH

NASA says skywatchers can look forward to seeing a super pink moon on Tuesday, April 7th. The April full moon is the closest supermoon of the year, which means it’s the largest. The website EarthSky explains, “That’s because this full moon more closely coincides with lunar perigee—the moon’s closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit—than any other full moon in 2020.” NASA says the moon will be at perigee at 2:08 p.m. Eastern time on April 7th, and that the moon will be visible at 10:35 p.m. Eastern that night. This moon is known as the pink moon, on account of the herb moss pink, also known as wild ground phlox which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of Spring in the eastern U.S.
