CK Mornings

There was a story this week about a guy who found an $90 electric toothbrush that he thought was mislabeled at Target near Boston, so it looked like it only cost one cent.  An employee named Tori Perrotti refused to sell it to him for a penny.  So he called Police, threatened to sue, and posted an unflattering photo of her online.  But the internet took her side, and someone started a GoFundMe campaign to send her on vacation.  They’re using the hashtag “TargetTori.”  Last we checked, the GoFundMe was up over $30,000, but she says she’s giving a lot of it to charity.

The Philadelphia Flyers got a lot of attention a few years ago when they created their new mascot, GRITTY.  Well . . . according to the Philadelphia police, Gritty is now under investigation for assault.  Seriously…. Back in November, Gritty was doing a photoshoot with fans.  And one 13-year-old kid hit Gritty on the head after a photo . . . the kid’s dad says the kid, quote, “playfully patted” Gritty. But apparently that infuriated him, and Gritty allegedly got up and PUNCHED the kid in the back. The Flyers say they investigated, the person in the Gritty costume denied everything, and no witnesses backed up the story, so they dropped it.  But the police aren’t so sure . . . so they’re still investigating.

Random Guy Catches a Car Thief After They Crash, Then Gives His Own Car to the Victim

A pizza guy in Port Huron, Michigan named Rayden Jones left his keys in his car while dropping off an order this month.

And when he came back two minutes later, someone had STOLEN it.   But luckily, a total stranger named Kevin Lindke helped him out . . . not once, but twice.

He was driving home when he saw Rayden’s car going the WRONG WAY on the highway.  So he called 911.

The woman who stole it promptly sideswiped another car and tried to run off.  But Kevin chased after her, and convinced her to wait for cops to come.  It turns out she has a history of mental health issues.

Luckily no one was seriously hurt.  But Rayden’s car was pretty mangled.  So Kevin stepped up again . . . and gave him HIS car.

He’d been planning to sell his old minivan.  But when he found out that the wrecked car belonged to a pizza guy, he decided he didn’t need the money as much as Rayden needed a new ride.

Rayden was shocked when he found out.  He says it’s just “mind-blowing” that someone he’d never met would come out of nowhere and do something so nice for him.

GOOD NEWS

If you haven’t seen this video yet, it’s pretty great . . .

There’s a six-year-old kid near Cleveland named John Oliver Zippay.  But he goes by the nickname “J.O.”

He was diagnosed with leukemia at age three.  So he doesn’t really remember a time when he didn’t have cancer.

But two days after Christmas, he went through his final chemo treatment.  And on his first day back at school last week, he got a STANDING OVATION.

All the kids and teachers lined the hallway and cheered for him as he walked in.

His dad says J.O. asked him if he thought the school might make an announcement or something.

But he never expected anything that big. In the video, he’s got a huge smile on his face as he walks in, which his mom described as, quote, “pure happiness.”

Dog Trashes Home So Badly, Her Family Thinks It’s Burglarized

A family thought their home had been ransacked by burglars — but it turns out it was an inside job.

A cocker spaniel puppy named Dory trashed the joint while her humans were out shopping.. They noticed nibble marks on everything and realized Dory had quite the afternoon. The 11-month-old pup had emptied the kitchen cupboards and garbage can, littering the home with trash, biscuits, assorted chocolates and cooking utensils.

Despite attending “day school” and puppy training, “Dory is just a full-time nutcase who enjoys causing havoc”.

They monitored her health but 24 hours after the incident, she was perfectly fine, eating and sleeping as normal.”

Squirrel Ransacks Home of Vacationing Family

A Georgia family said they returned home after a holiday vacation to find their home has been ransacked by a squirrel, and their insurance wouldn’t cover the damage.

Kari Drees and her family arrived home to find thousands of dollars’ worth of damage had been done to the inside of the house. “We saw wood chippings from the door all over the floor, and as we further inspected it, all the windows had been damaged,” she said.

Drees said they searched the home and discovered the culprit — a squirrel nesting in their couch.

She said the animal apparently came down through the chimney and couldn’t find a way back out. An Insurance adjuster was sent to the home, but he told Drees the company does not cover damage from rodents or vermin.

“They said if it was a raccoon it would have been covered, but since we saw a squirrel, droppings, that they won’t cover it,”.

Drees said her family is attempting to crowd fund money for repairs and she wants to warn other homeowners to check their insurance policies carefully.

1936 Newsreel About the “New” Dial Telephone

This might help explain why your grandparents can’t figure out how to use that gosh darn smart phone.  Back in 1936 they needed an AT&T newsreel to tell them how to operate the “new” dial telephone.

It features a young girl doing the demonstration as an announcer walks you through it.

He explains in great detail how to recognize a dial tone, a ringing signal, and a busy signal.  He even tells you how to dial each numeral.

The Average Person Had 105 Bad Nights of Sleep Last Year, and 102 Failed Naps

If these numbers are even close to right, it’s no wonder everyone’s so tired all the time . . .

An annual survey by the store Mattress Firm found the average person had 105 bad nights of sleep last year.  Plus 102 “failed naps” where you try to fall asleep but can’t.  That’s about two a week.  Here are six more stats from the survey . . .

  1. The average person said they only averaged five-and-a-half hours of sleep a night last year.  That’s a huge drop from 2018 when it was 6 hours and 17 minutes.

  1. We’d pay $317 for just ONE NIGHT of “perfect” sleep.  Up from $290 a year ago.

  1. On average, we got 120 nights of GREAT sleep . . . which is defined as falling asleep fast, and sleeping through the night.  So only about a third of the time.

  1. People who sleep on their backs were more likely to say they slept great.  And people who let their PETS sleep in bed with them slept better than people who didn’t.

  1. The most common bedtime “rituals” we do to fall asleep include reading . . . watching TV . . . taking a warm shower . . . and having SEX.

  1. And people who used their phone in bed scrolled for an average of 12-and-a-half minutes before they put it down and got some shut-eye.

ERIC CHURCH VIES FOR TWO AWARDS AT THIS WEEKEND’S GRAMMYS

Eric Church has two nominations at Sunday’s (Jan. 26th) Grammy Awards, including Best Country Album for Desperate Man and Best Country Song for his recent Number One hit, “Some Of It.” The song was co-written by Eric, but it wasn’t originally intended to make his Desperate Man album. It wasn’t until Eric’s wife played the song for a friend of theirs that he realized the album wasn’t complete without it.

He tells us: [“It was such a blessing that happened. It wasn’t going to be on the album. It was just one of those freak things that I put it on the album, the last song on the album. The album was done, and all of a sudden it becomes the pillar, one of the pillars on the album. I think it’s one of the great things about music is you just never know what’s going to happen until it’s all said and done. You can try to plan all you want to, but you’ll probably not going to figure it out.”]

The 62nd Grammy Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

FAST FACTS

Here are all the Best Country Album Grammy nominees:

Best Country Album
Desperate Man, Eric Church
Stronger Than the Truth, Reba McEntire
Interstate Gospel, Pistol Annies
Center Point Road, Thomas Rhett
While I’m Livin’, Tanya Tucker

JON PARDI SAYS DUET WITH THOMAS RHETT WAS ‘NO-BRAINER’

Jon Pardi teamed up with Thomas Rhett to record Thomas’ latest single, “Beer Can’t Fix.” The two have been friends for several years, even before they had record deals, so Jon tells us he jumped at the chance to collaborate with Thomas. [“I was so happy when he texted me to ask me to be a part of this record, and I was like, ‘Of course!’ Like, ‘Come on! What song,’ and he sent me two and we decided to sing ‘Beer Can’t Fix’ cause it’s an athem. It’s a no-brainer, and for two male artists to sing a song together I think it’s perfect. It’s about . . . drinkin’ beer, and it’s fun.”]

“Beer Can’t Fix” is making its climb up the country charts, while at the same time Jon is closing in on Number One with his latest, “Heartache Medication.”
