CK Mornings

A fire department in the town of Slave Lake, Alberta tried to order 18 pizzas from a place called Alimo’s Pizzeria last week, but ordered from an Alamo Pizza in San Antonio by mistake.  Then they paid for the pizzas anyway, with a big discount from the pizzeria.  And they asked the owner to deliver them to some local firefighters instead.  Here’s the owner, and one of the Canadian firefighters talking about it.

A woman in Rancho Cucamonga, California recently posted a rant on a neighborhood Facebook page with a message for her neighbors this Halloween.

Quote, “Over the last three Halloweens . . . cheap candy has somehow infiltrated our community and it has to stop.”

She also says that while, quote, “Dum Dums, Smarties, and Jolly Ranchers” might be okay for some other cities nearby, quote, “We are an affluent neighborhood and this status should be reflected in our candy provisions for Halloween.”

So she’s begging her neighbors to start handing out FULL SIZE candy bars, or giving each kid four to six fun size bars.

The post wound up on a Twitter account called Best of Nextdoor, and now it’s going viral.

GOOD NEWS

A guy in Madison, Wisconsin named Andrew Philibeck was getting ready to propose to his girlfriend Rachel a couple months ago.  But he knew she was really close with her sister Therese, and would want her there to see it.

So he called Therese last month.  And she joked that it would be funny if she hid out nearby and dressed up as a BUSH or something.  So then she could take pictures of it.

It was supposed to be a joke, but Andrew thought it was great.  So he ordered a “ghillie suit” on Amazon . . . one of those grassy things snipers wear to blend in with the background.  And Therese agreed to wear it.

He picked a spot in a wooded area, next to a lake.  And even HE had no idea where she was, because the suit was so good.

Right after the sister said yes, Therese SCREAMED out.  Then they saw her and cracked up.

Now the photos are going viral.  There are a few of the actual engagement, and a few of Therese dressed up as a bush.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??

Mitten Pizza is a small restaurant in Middleville, Michigan. Last week it received a bill from Great Lakes Energy for $19,795.74.

“A mistake from our electric company was found out and now they are charging us 12 months back (the longest amount of time they can legally back charge us due to their own error),” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page.

“This is not a bill that Mitten Pizza LLC can afford to pay, so it is with great sadness that we are announcing that we WILL close the doors on November 1st and cease operations completely if we are unable to negotiate this bill down to a number that isn’t laughable.”

Friends of Mitten Pizza have launched a GoFundMe page and organized an IRL fundraiser at the restaurant Friday and Saturday, October 11-12.

A local TV station reached out to Great Lakes Energy, which said it had been in contact with Jamie Zichterman, Mitten’s owner. But when the station asked what the hell kind of meter error could lead to that enormous a bill, Great Lakes did not respond, perhaps because there is no acceptable answer to that question.

What’s the Most Popular Way to Cook Bacon? In a Pan or in the Oven?

An old poll a while back found 70% of the bacon we consume is eaten at breakfast.  11% is eaten at lunch, and 17% at dinner on things like burgers and salads.

The remaining 2% is eaten as a snack.

So how do you COOK your bacon?  In a pan or in the oven?  A recent survey of 1,300 people ranked the four most popular ways to cook it.  And there’s a clear favorite . . .

  1. In a skillet or frying pan, 46% of the vote.
  2. In the oven, 18%.
  3. In the microwave, 14%.
  4. On the grill, 2%.

18% of people said they don’t cook bacon.  And the remaining 2% either weren’t sure, or said they cook it some other way.  (Like how?  In the sun?)

JON PARDI – ME AND JACK

Jon Pardi’s song “Me and Jack” was inspired by his early days on the road when a large bottle of Jack Daniels was in his tour rider.  But it caused too much chaos with the band and crew so he had to take it off the rider.  It’s one of the songs on his new album “Heartache Medication”
