Officials in Mexico’s second-largest city say a freak storm Sunday that dumped more than a metre of hail on parts of the Guadalajara area damaged hundreds of homes.
Pictures show cars buried up to their windows in hail. The government brought in heavy machinery to clear streets and dig out businesses. Streets looked like rivers of ice.
The hail clogged drainage systems, leading to intense flooding in places.
The storm also partially buried tractor-trailers and cars, bringing families out on to the streets to play in ice piled high despite the summer heat.
Guadalajara usually sees average temperatures in June of around 31 C and following the storm it went to 27C.

Trenton Ontario set a new Guinness record for the Canada Day weekend.
Nearly 4,000 people formed a maple leaf in a park in Trenton on Saturday.
Dressed in red T-shirts, they filled in an outline of the leaf for a Canadian Armed Forces charity.
The last record holder for the largest human maple leaf was Grouse Mountain, B.C., for 1,589 people while Trenton had 3,942. The event was meant to raise awareness of Soldier On, a program that supports veterans and serving members of the military overcome permanent physical injuries and mental illness through sport.

“Toy Story 4” easily held off “Annabelle Comes Home” to win the box office for the second straight week. “Toy Story 4”made another $57.9 million, while “Annabelle Comes Home” debuted with about a third of that, $20.4 million.
Also, “Aladdin” made another $9.3 million, and has officially passed “Independence Day” to become Will Smith’s biggest movie.

Things to Look Forward to in July
- Amazon Prime Day is coming up . . . and it’s two days now, on July 15th and 16th.
- Some big movies hit theaters this month: “Spider-Man: Far From Home”opens tomorrow. The live-action “Lion King” comes out July 19th. And Quentin Tarantino’s new movie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” opens July 26th.
- The third season of “Stranger Things”hits Netflix this Thursday. And two other big shows come back on July 26th: “Veronica Mars”, and the final season of “Orange Is the New Black”. Also, July 21st is the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s moon-walk, so there are a bunch of specials. And “Shark Week” starts July 28th.
- In sports: Wimbledonjust started . . . the Women’s Soccer team takes on England in the World Cup semi-final today. . . MLB All-Star week kicks off next Monday . . . and British Open coverage starts July 14th.

Here’s a really important reminder that you HAVE to keep a close eye on your kids this summer. Especially when you’re around water . . .
Three-year-old Kali Dallis was in the pool at an apartment complex near Atlanta three weeks ago. And her aunt was there with her, but didn’t notice when she slipped out of her pool float and went under.
Luckily, her 10-year-old sister Jayla saw her fully submerged about two minutes later . . . jumped in the pool . . . and pulled her out. Then their aunt and the apartment manager started doing CPR. A police sergeant named Ed Lyons was one of the first responders on the scene.
He took over on the CPR, and the footage is pretty intense. There’s one angle from a security camera, and another from Ed’s chest-cam.
Kali showed up at the E.R. in critical condition but MADE IT. She spent two weeks in the hospital, but doctors think she’ll make a full recovery.
Her mom wasn’t at the pool when it happened, but she’s proud of Jayla for what she did. She says she hopes the story will help other parents remember to keep a close eye on their kids.

A New Fecal Parasite Is Causing Disease Outbreaks in Pools Right Now
The only reason any of us can go in a swimming pool is because we tell ourselves the chlorine is killing all of the NASTY bacteria from other people.
Here’s what happens when the chlorine doesn’t work.
According to the CDC, there’s a new FECAL PARASITE that’s causing disease outbreaks all over the country. And it’s being spread by people in swimming pools.
The parasite is called cryptosporidium, but it’s known as crypto. And the number of cases has been going up by about 13% per year for the past decade.
If you get infected with crypto, it can lead to nausea, cramps, and diarrhea. And odds are you’ll be okay . . . but it HAS sent 300 people to the hospital in the past decade and led to one death.
So how can you avoid it and still go swimming in pools? One, don’t let anyone swim if they have diarrhea. And two, don’t swallow the pool water . . . that’s the quickest way to get it.

L.A. Angels pitcher TYLER SKAGGS died yesterday at the age of 27. He was found dead in his hotel room in Texas. He had just pitched on Saturday. There’s no word on a cause of death, but police say they don’t suspect foul play or suicide.
KEVIN DURANT is leaving the Warriors. He announced that he’s joining the Nets on a four-year deal worth a record $164 million, which is a big deal considering his Achilles injury will likely keep him sidelined for ALL of next season.
- “Toy Story 4” stayed at the top of the box office by making an additional $57.9 million. Meanwhile, “Aladdin” surpassed “Independence Day” to become WILL SMITH’s highest-grossing movie.
- No winning ticket was sold for the $10 million jackpot in Friday night’s Lotto Max draw.
That means the jackpot for the next draw on July 2 will be approximately $15 million.
There was no winning ticket for the $12 million jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto 649 draw. The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw on July 3 will be approximately $16 million dollars.
- A couple in their mid-20s got married in May, after meeting as kids when they both battled leukemia and had the same doctor. They stayed friends over the years, went to the same summer camps, both went to Florida State University, and eventually started a relationship.

CHRIS YOUNG’S VIDEO BLOOPER WAS ‘NOT FLATTERING’
If it looks like Chris Young is having a good time in the video for his latest hit, “Raised On Country,” it’s because he was. At the end of the clip, Chris, his bandmates and the patrons at the restaurant seem to be in the midst of a windstorm with debris blowing around them, and while it works in the video, Chris tells us he was totally unprepared when cameras started rolling. [“It was a lot of fun, and also the very first thing that happened is they did not tell me for the first shot where we were doing the fan and they’re just throwing torn up scraps of like everything, and it hit me right in the mouth (laughs) on the first shot, and he actually went back and showed it to me but it was like me getting hit right in the face with a bunch of . . . trash. (laughs) Yeah, it was not flattering, but it was super fun to shoot that, and honestly, we were having a ball the whole day.”]
He continues his Raised On Country tour with special guest Chris Janson and Dylan Scott.

Kenny Chesney will release a brand new single to country radio on July 12th at 6 a.m. ET called “Tip Of My Tongue.” He co-wrote the song with pop star Ed Sheeran and top tunesmith Ross Copperman.
“Tip Of My Tongue” is the first single from Kenny’s upcoming studio album.
