CK Mornings

For the first time since 1901, you won’t be able to buy those candy hearts with messages on them this Valentine’s Day . . . the original ones, anyway.  Plenty of knock-offs will be available.  But the original ones are called ‘Sweethearts,’ and they were made by Necco, which went out of business.

Don’t worry, the company that bought Necco is bringing them back next year.

Casey Smitherman is the school superintendent in Elwood, in northeast Indiana.  And earlier this month, a 15-year-old student didn’t come to school, because he had a sore throat.

Casey went to check on him because she was worried . . . he came from a tough household, and in the past, she’s helped him out by buying him clothes and helping him clean.  And she was pretty sure he had strep throat . . . but he didn’t have insurance.

So when doctors wouldn’t examine him, she lied and said he was her SON . . . and got him a prescription under her son’s name.\Someone tipped off the cops last week . . . and Casey was arrested for official misconduct, insurance fraud, insurance application fraud, and identity deception.

She issued a statement saying, quote, “I wanted to do all I could to help him.  I know this action was wrong.  In the moment, my only concern was for this child’s health.”

Fortunately, the school board seems to have her back in this.  They say, quote, “She made an unfortunate mistake, but we understand it was out of concern for this child . . . she continues to have our support.”

Guy Gets Caught Flying With 43 Pounds of Pot in His Luggage

The TSA is a little overwhelmed because of the shutdown right now.  But they still won’t miss something THIS blatant very often . . .

A 28-year-old guy from Texas named Antonio Salis was arrested last Thursday when he tried to fly from Sacramento to Austin with 43 POUNDS of marijuana in his luggage.

The TSA in Sacramento actually missed it.  But his bags got flagged at the airport in Austin after a drug dog smelled the pot. After his bags were flagged, he tried to claim they weren’t actually his.  He told police he found them on the street before his flight and decided to take them.  Great excuse.

He’s now facing a third-degree felony charge for drug possession, and could be looking at up to 10 years in prison.

The good news is his luggage was 7 pounds under the airline’s 50-pound limit . . . so he avoided that extra baggage fee.  If it HAD been over 50 pounds of pot, he’d also be looking at up to 20 years in prison instead of 10.

Carjacker Fails Because He Doesn’t Realize the Car Is in Park

A guy in Pittsburgh was parked in his grandma’s driveway to drop off some food last week, when a man came up and tried to carjack him at gunpoint.

But when the carjacker got in the car, he kept revving the engine to drive off, and the car never moved . . . because it was in PARK. And the carjacker never figured out THAT was the issue, because eventually he got out and ran away.

The cops are trying to track him down.  And they made a special note that the guy they’re looking for is, quote, “apparently unfamiliar with how cars work.”

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

About two years ago, employees at a gas station in Mexico noticed a scared, malnourished, stray dog that kept hanging around.  And they decided to adopt him.

He’d been abused, and he was pretty skittish.  But they eventually gave him a bath, got him vaccinated, started feeding him every day, and named him Randy.

Ever since then, he’s been a hit with customers.  Some of them even go there for gas JUST to see the dog.

Anyway, one of the employees was working the night shift earlier this month when two armed ROBBERS showed up and started fighting him.

And he was losing pretty bad until Randy woke up . . . heard them going at it . . . and came charging in to help.

He went after the two robbers and helped fight them off.  So the gas station attendant is okay, and a security camera got it all on video.

The owner says he’s not sure what would have happened if the dog hadn’t been there.  But he thinks it’s pretty clear now that Randy appreciates everything, they’ve done for him.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE?…….

Bride Claims Mother-In-Law Wants Her to Dye Her Hair before Wedding

An anonymous bride shared her frustration in a now deleted Reddit post.

“MIL wants me to dye my (naturally red) hair for our wedding so she can be the only (cheaply dyed fake) redhead in wedding pictures,” the woman wrote.

When the mother-in-law inquired about the bride’s hairstyle plans for the Fall 2019 nuptials, she said: “Don’t you think people will think it’s weird you have the same hair color as [your]’s mother? I just don’t want you having to explain it to your family that we match.”

The bride told the woman that she’s never altered her hair chemically, and if she plans to do so in the future, it “certainly won’t be before the most photographed day of my life.”

The bride goes on to explain that the mother-in-law continued to pester her about dying her hair because she’s afraid people will have a hard time telling them apart in the family photos.

“I’m still upset you’re not listening to me about your hair color. I really don’t want anyone judging us for matching. Please reconsider. It makes me uncomfortable that you’d be willing to keep the same color as me when you’re marrying my son,” the woman allegedly told the bride.

“I’m still at a loss for words for a reply but at least I have an entertaining story for [my] and you all,” she wrote in the post.

FOOD GUIDE:
Canada’s new food guide was unveiled this week, and it features a new, simplified approach that encourages plant-based eating with a reduction in emphasis on meat and dairy.  Canadians have been told since the 1980s that a healthy diet consists of servings across the “four food groups”.

But the new guide released by Health Canada not only does away with those food groups, it also eliminates portion sizes, and encourages drinking water as the beverage of choice.  Another of the key messages is to eat fewer processed foods, which are high in sugar and salt.

The guide recommends Canadians eat vegetables, fruits and whole grains, choose legumes, nuts and tofu more regularly and be aware of the health risks of consuming alcohol.

Mistakes We’re All Making With Our Contact Lenses

Sleeping with your contacts…..

Repeatedly crashing out in your lenses (even if they’re billed as “overnight” contacts) can starve the cornea (the front surface of the eye) of oxygen, setting the stage for dryness, discomfort, redness, blurry vision, and swelling.

Showering with your contacts…..

Contacts are like Gremlins: You shouldn’t get them wet. Water can cause lenses to swell, change shape, and stick to the eye, which can scratch the cornea, making it easier for infection-causing bacteria to enter. And H2O from showers, pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, and oceans can contain microorganisms that can get caught under a lens and cause painful infections that, infrequently, lead to permanent vision loss,

Not cleaning the container…………..

It’s a breeding ground for microscopic germs that can lead to infection. Cleaning it daily could halve the number of lens-related infections each year. Empty and rinse your case with fresh cleaning solution (just adding new solution to the old gives bugs a chance to multiply), then turn it upside down to air-dry on a paper towel. Replace the case at least every three months, sooner if it gets cracked.
