It turns out your friends, your significant other, your family, your coworkers, and your kids aren’t the only ones who get bummed out when you totally ignore them to stare at your phone. That feeling crosses SPECIES.
According to a new study, your DOG also gets depressed when he sees you using your phone.
The researchers say that your dog picks up on the fact that you’re ignoring him when you’re using your phone . . . and that can make him more anxious. Eventually, all that anxiety can add up to depression.
The study also found your cat doesn’t love when you’re on your phone either, but since they’re less social than dogs, it doesn’t bother them as much. And really, if your cat had a phone, it would totally use it as a way to ignore you too.

We’ve been told for years that we should aim to take 10,000 steps per day.
The problem? 10,000 steps is a completely arbitrary figure, one that originates from a Japanese marketing campaign in the mid-60s. In an attempt to capitalize on the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, a company designed the world’s first wearable step-counter, a device called a manpo-kei, which translates as “10,000-step meter”. One of the problems with the 10,000-steps-a-day goal is that it doesn’t take into account the intensity of exercise. Getting out of breath and increasing your heart rate may be more important than the number of steps taken. Researchers are currently conducting studies to see whether people who take 10,000 steps a day merely by puttering around their house achieve the same health benefits as those who do so by brisk walking or playing sport.

A woman in northern Minnesota named Kristin Day was recently at a bar, and started talking to a guy who’d been going through dialysis, because his kidneys were damaged.
A lot of people on dialysis aren’t supposed to have alcohol. So it’s not clear if he was drinking or not. But they struck up a conversation.
And after knowing him for just two hours, she decided to give him one of HER kidneys.
She went through all the tests. And he actually tried to talk her out of it at one point. But she says it felt like there was a REASON they met that day, and she’d never felt like that before.
The surgery happened about six months later, and Kristin spent four days in the hospital recovering. But she’s doing great now, and so is he.
She knows it was kind of crazy how it all went down, but says they were both just in the right place at the right time. And she’s definitely happy she went through with it.

Small incentives boost willingness to exercise
Financial rewards as low as pennies a day are enough to motivate people to increase their physical activity, according to a new study led by Western University.
Researchers used the Carrot Rewards wellness app to measure how small incentives could boost a person’s willingness to exercise.
They found that earning points equivalent to just $0.04 a day from loyalty programs like Aeroplan, Drop, Petro-Canada, More Rewards, RBC, and SCENE contributed to a 5 per cent daily step count increase among the study’s 32,229 participants. For individuals in the study rated among the lower half of the activity scale, the rewards led to a 21 per cent increase in daily steps.
The average age of those who took part in the study was 34 and more than half of the participants were originally categorized as physically inactive. However, over a fifth of those in that category who became highly engaged with the app averaged an increase of 1,225 steps per day. Participants in British Columbia on average walked 739 more steps per day while those in Newfoundland & Labrador averaged 346 more steps per day.

HEALTH NEWS
Finding and keeping a good attitude could be really beneficial to your health.
Researchers looked at over 4,400 participants to check out the association between happiness, and the subsequent likelihood of dying due to any cause.
They heavily focused on participants ages 60+ living in Singapore. They found 15 percent of happy older people passed away during the course of the study, but 20 percent of unhappy participants passed away.
Researcher, Professor Rahul Malhorta, explains, “The findings indicate that even small increments in happiness may be beneficial to older people’s longevity. Therefore individual-level activities as well as government policies and programs that maintain or improve happiness or psychological well-being may contribute to a longer life among older people.”

- A high school cheerleader in Michigan tried to bribe kids to vote for her for homecoming queen a few weeks ago . . . by passing out POT BROWNIES. But the cops found out, and now she could possibly face FELONY charges for distributing the brownies in a drug-free zone. The cops say the girl passed out 12 brownies, and they managed to confiscate three of them . . . which they sent to the state lab for testing.
Also, it looks like they crowed a homecoming queen this past weekend, but since the school says this girl is out of town on a, quote, “family emergency,” we’re guessing it’s not her.
LOCALLY……
Construction is ready to begin this month at the site of Chatham’s new Catholic elementary school, but the school won’t be ready for students and staff for the next school year as initially intended.
The Chatham Maroons dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the LaSalle Vipers on Wednesday.
The Maroons return to home ice on Sunday to face off against the Sarnia Legionnaires at 7 p.m. And then on October 10, the Vipers remain in LaSalle to battle the Komoka Kings at 7 p.m.
MICHAEL RAY AND HIS DAD HAVE MATCHING INK – (09/28/2018)
Michael Ray‘s artistry extends to his arms. The singer has a complete “sleeve” made up of meaningful tattoos, something that was kind of inspired by his dad.
Michael is not done getting tattoos. He tells us he plans to add ink to his ribs and chest before calling it quits.
OLD DOMINION FEELING ‘AT HOME’ IN STUDIO WORKING ON THIRD ALBUM – (10/02/2018)
Old Dominion has been hard at work on their third studio album, the follow up to 2017’s Happy Endings, which has charted three consecutive Number One singles with “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart,” “Written In Sand,” and most recently, “Hotel Key,”.

Old Dominion taped a performance of “Little Saint Nick” during last week’s CMA Country Christmas special taping in Nashville. The show will air on ABC closer to the holidays.
