A Mountain Climber, A Valedictorian, And Pokémon Go
1. A 57-year-old in Scotland named Paul Ellis was partially paralyzed after a fall 30 years ago, and had to have the lower part of both legs amputated in 2008. But he’s not letting it hold him back, and just climbed the U.K.’s tallest MOUNTAIN on his hands and knees. He did it to raise money for a charity that helps kids who’ve lost limbs.
2. A woman from Illinois named Tracey Meares had the highest grades in her class when she graduated high school in 1984, but wasn’t named valedictorian because she’s Black. She was declared a “top student” instead, alongside a white kid. But the school finally reversed that decision 38 years later, and made her valedictorian. By the way, she’s now an author and law professor at Yale.
