When Lindsay Ell said yes to Brantley Gilbert’s label head, Scott Borchetta’s, request that she join Brantley on the duet “What Happens in a Small Town,” little did she know she’d be heading toward her first Number One hit.

Lindsay jumped on the chance to record with Brantley, but Brantley was too afraid to ask for the favour himself.

“I mean, I remember getting that call from Scott and I was just so grateful and honored, really, that you’d asked me and you guys wanted me to be a part of this song. (Brantley) And she killed it. And I would have called myself, but I was afraid she’d say no. (Lindsay) I wouldn’t have said no, Brantley! Your mom could have called me, and I would have said yes. (Brantley) I have rejection issues.”

Brantley recorded his part first, but he wasn’t able to be in the studio with Lindsay when she recorded her part, so he called, texted and Facetimed into the studio with producer Dann Huff.
