Runaway June makes Mediabase Country chart history this week as their current single, “Buy My Own Drinks,” marks the first time a female trio has broken into the Top Five on that chart since the Dixie Chicks in 2003.

The ladies have twice as much to celebrate as all three — Jennifer Wayne, Hannah Mulholland and Naomi Cooke — had a hand in writing the song.

Runaway June are pinching themselves about their current success, but Naomi said it’s a product of their hard work and perseverance.

“At risk of sounding a little proud, like we’re so grateful but like we’ve worked really hard, so it’s like when you stick with something — it’s like we’re told by all of the people we look up to, it’s like, ‘Just stick with it, don’t give up.’ There were lots of times where we were like, ‘Man, is this ever gonna work? Are we on the right path,’ and you do eventually see the fruits of your labour so we’re just trying to really enjoy it.”

Runaway June is back on the road with Carrie Underwood after her Cry Pretty Tour 360 hiatus.
