90-Year-Old Finally Got His High School Diploma, 72 Years

A former Marine in Oklahoma had a pretty cool Memorial Day weekend.  Bill Larkin is 90 years old, and lives outside Tulsa.  And back in 1943, he was a month from graduating high school when he dropped out to fight in World War Two.

At that point he was 17, which wasn’t technically old enough to enlist.  But he was 6-foot-4, so they decided he wasn’t your AVERAGE 17-year-old.  He ended up serving in Guam and Iwo Jima as a tank driver.

After he made it home, he looked into getting his high school diploma.  But they told him he’d have to enroll for a full semester, just to take one history class.

So he decided it wasn’t worth it, and got a job as a truck driver.  Then he worked as a supervisor for a construction company until he retired a while back.

He never got his diploma though . . . until last Thursday, when his high school gave it to him at their commencement ceremony, 72 YEARS after he was supposed to graduate.

Bill says a high school diploma probably won’t be all that useful for him at this point, but he’s grateful to have it anyway.

He just doesn’t want anyone to say he deserves it because he’s a hero.  He says the only heroes he knows are the guys who DIDN’T come home.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

★ Showtime network has doubled its order for David Lynch’s upcoming TV series “Twin Peaks”. Now 18 episodes are being lined up for the much-anticipated revival next year. The mystery drama reboot comes 25 years after the original. Cast members Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, and Sherilyn Fenn are returning; as well as Angelo Badalamenti, who created the original ABC-TV series’ memorable theme song and soundtrack.

– Contact Music claims Brad Pitt is doing a sequel to ‘World War Z’. It will be released in 2017. The original made $540 million
★ Jon Stewart and “The Daily Show”, the Comedy Central powerhouse he’s soon to depart, have initiated a 5-week boot camp for military veterans who want to work … in show biz. The project has been quietly developed over 3 years and is already paying off in jobs for vets. A longtime lampooner of America’s wars, Stewart is at the same time a big supporter of veterans, making hospital visits and doing tours of bases. As to providing vets with free training in other fields, Stewart says: “Please steal our idea.” – “New York Times”
– ESPN claims Rob Gronkowski and his family are taping an episode of Family Feud this weekend

★ We all know Shonda Rhimes can create and run a TV show (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “Scandal”) but now the TV hitmaker is expanding her horizons and publishing her 1st book. It’s called “Year of Yes” and is due this November from Simon & Schuster. In December 2013, Rhimes decided to say ‘yes’  for 1 entire year to any and all unexpected invitations and options that came her way. She says it turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions she’s ever made. Her book will outline the results.– “USA Today”
★ Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino went to great lengths to recreate a stormy Wyoming landscape in his upcoming Western movie “The Hateful Eight” by refrigerating the set to the extent that the actors could see their own breath (that never happens in movies). Taking place a few years after the Civil War, the story revolves around a group of traveling strangers who are forced to take refuge together at a bar when a storm hits. Actor Samuel L Jackson says the cast still texts one another sharing stories about the ‘incredible’ film. It’s due to open late this year.– Collider.com
★ A “Prison Break” TV reboot is in the works, 6 years after it was taken off-air. The jail series was cancelled after 4 seasons in 2009, but now FOX-TV is eyeing a revival featuring original stars Dominic Purcell & Wentworth Miller. It’s thought that the plan is to produce a ‘short series’, similar to the 12-episode “24″ reboot, “24: Live Another Day”, that aired last year.
Someone Called 911 Because They Thought a Tiger Stuffed Animal Was Real

The police in Vancouver, Washington got a frantic 911 call around 4:15 P.M. on Monday afternoon.  Someone was driving near a lake and saw a Bengal TIGER attacking an SUV.

Even though it didn’t make any sense for a tiger to be roaming around Washington attacking cars, the cops headed out anyway to check it out.

And when they got there, they found out what was going on.  A 19-year-old guy named Connor Zuvich had a big tiger STUFFED ANIMAL tied to the roof of his SUV.

Someone must’ve thought it was real, and called the cops.

He says the cops took a few pictures, laughed about it, and took off.

Don’t Have Your First Cup of Coffee Until You Get to Work

If you’re one of those people who can’t start your day until you’ve had that first cup of coffee . . . you’re doing it wrong.  You shouldn’t have coffee right after you wake up, because that’s when your body is producing more of the stress hormone cortisol, and that makes caffeine less effective.

Studies have shown the average person’s cortisol levels peak between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning.  And cortisol prevents caffeine from doing its thing.

So you should get to work and THEN have your first cup of coffee.  Or if you wake up really early, wait an hour.

There are actually three times in the day when your cortisol levels peak . . . right after you wake up, between noon and 1:00 PM, and between 5:30 and 6:30 PM.  So you shouldn’t have coffee then either.

The good news is you can just keep doing what you’re doing, and ignore all this if you want to.  Drinking coffee right after you wake up won’t kill you.

But drinking it while your cortisol levels are up does make you more likely to become addicted to caffeine.  Because you’ll start needing more and more of it to feel the effects.

There’s a Good Chance Your Toothbrush Is Contaminated With Other People’s Poop

When you’re done punishing the toilet and give it a big flush, all that water shoots tons of tiny FECES PARTICLES in the air.

Now, your toothbrush is probably sitting there on the sink, less than a few feet from the toilet.  So you may be wondering if IT gets coated in swirling poop.  The answer is YES, yes it does.

A new study out of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut tested toothbrushes and found 55% of them had FECES on their bristles . . . which could EASILY make you sick.

And the more people you share your bathroom with, the more likely it is that it’s THEIR feces.  Not that it’s necessarily more dangerous to brush your teeth with someone else’s poop than your own.  But it FEELS way grosser.

Toothbrush covers didn’t really help stop the feces.   In fact, they just gave it a better, more cozy environment to breed in.  And no amount of hot or cold water could decontaminate the toothbrushes.

So what should you do to avoid all this?  One, close the toilet lid before you flush.  And two, figure out a better place to store your toothbrush, whether it’s a medicine cabinet, a drawer, or all the way back in your bedroom.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
• “Miracle On the Hudson” – 85-year-old Clint Eastwood (“American Sniper”) next directs a bio-pic on Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the veteran pilot who ditched US Airways Flight 1549 in a splash landing on the Hudson River in January 2009, saving everyone aboard. The jet had lost both engines from goose strikes after taking off from NYC’s LaGuardia Airport.

  • “Toy Story 4″ – The next instalment will be a ‘brand new chapter’ in the series, Pixar studio honcho John Lasseter has revealed, as the plot will not follow on from 2010′s “Toy Story 3″.  Tim Allen signed on for a 4th movie even before it was announced and Tom Hanks was all for it as well. It’s set to be released in June 2017, 22 years after the original “Toy Story”.

KIP MOORE BREAKS GROUND ON ‘COMEBACK KID’ SKATEPARK – (06/04/2015)

Kip Moore has announced plans for his “Comeback Kid Skatepark Project,” a charitable initiative that will oversee the construction of a series of skateparks to benefit communities and “comeback kids.”  The singer joined Nashville Mayor Karl Dean at a press conference yesterday (Wednesday, June 3rd) where he revealed the phase one cities of the project which include Nashville, TN; Boston, MA; San Marcos, TX; and Annapolis, MD.  The inspiration for the name of the project comes from “Comeback Kid,” a personal anthem from Kip’s upcoming album, Wild Ones.

As an avid rock climber, surfer, skateboarder and outdoor enthusiast, Kip has been drawn to the outdoors and alternative sports for much of his life.

[“I think I am a big thrill-seeker. There was actually a song I was listening to today, ‘Young To See’ by Charlie Worsham, and it’s just such a great lyric. That’s kind of how I want to always be is you gotta do and see these things while you’re young, you know — surfing and rock climbing and skate parks. There’s gonna come a time when I’m not gonna be able to do those things, and is it dangerous sometimes? Yes, when I’m dropping off an eight-foot half pipe, yes it is. There might be a chance I might not make it to the show but I’ve been okay so far and maybe I’ll change my mind when I break my neck or something . . . or arm or ankle, but so far I want to live life as hard and wide open as I can, and when I see a skate park I jump out and I get on it.”] SOUNDCUE (:42 OC: . . . get on it.)

Kip’s Wild Ones album will be released on August 21st. He hits the road on Dierks Bentley‘s 2015 Sounds Of Summer tour on Friday (June 5th) for the opening show in Raleigh, NC.
