A resident of Chatham, Merle Smith was called away by the Lord, peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the age of 87.
Merle was the daughter of the late Robert and Ethel (Reid) Allen.
Loving mother of Joanne Daniels (Jamie) of Chatham, Brian Smith (Jana) of Chatham, and the late Linda Smith (2001).
Proud grandmother of Amanda Smith (fiance Matt Mensinga) of Calgary, AB, Jenny Dyck (Anthony) of Airdrie, AB, Jacqueline Buchanan (Brett) of Chatham and James Daniels of Calgary, AB.
Great-grandmother of Raine and River Dyck, Max and Myla Buchanan and Ethan Daniels.
Predeceased by her siblings Morris Allen, Wilma Allen, Vernon Allen and Inez Cleveland. Survived by sister-in-law Lula Nicholson.
Aunt of the late Richard Allen and survived by his wife Lou. Great-aunt to Shelley, Heather and Shawn. Also missed by extended family and friends.
Merle was a member of the former Victoria Ave United Church.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 10:00am until the Funeral Service at 11:00am with Rev. Jim Kettle officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
