Canadian wrestling star ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper dead at age 61
The wrestling world has barely gotten over the death of DUSTY RHODES in June, but now there’s another, even greater, loss to contend with.
“ROWDY” RODDY PIPER died in his sleep Thursday night after suffering a heart attack. He was 61 years old.
His feud with HULK HOGAN and MR. T back in the ’80s, which also involved CYNDI LAUPER, put pro wrestling on the map, and was the main attraction of the first Wrestlemania back in 1985
Last night, WWE Raw opened, as it did just a few weeks ago for Dusty Rhodes, with the full company of superstars lined up to recognize a 10-bell salute to “Rowdy” Roddy Piper—followed by a career montage that touches on pretty much everything you could remember about “Hot Rod.”
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper is known for the scene in “They Live” where he comes into a bank with a shotgun, and says, “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick a**. And I’m all out of bubblegum.”. He said they just threw him into the scene, told him to say something cool, and then rolled the camera. WATCH THAT ABOVE!
