[WATCH] Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars interview with Fox News
JIM BOB and MICHELLE DUGGAR defended their son JOSH in the first of a two-part story on Fox News last night. They talked a lot about how what Josh did was just “over-the-clothes” touching . . . although they did admit that there was some UNDER-the-clothes touching as well, but it was only for, quote, “a few seconds.”
They also tried to downplay later incidents that occurred while their daughters were awake. Michelle said, quote, “To them they probably didn’t even understand it was improper touch.”
They also defended him against charges of pedophilia, saying he was a child himself . . . although one of his victims was under the age of 10, and he was 14 or 15.
Jim Bob said, quote, “I think that the legal definition is 16 and up for being an adult preying on a child. So he was a child preying on a child.”
They also said they were encouraged by the fact that it was Josh who confessed to them that he touched two of his sisters while they slept. The girls themselves weren’t even aware of what had happened.
But still, it happened two more times while they tried to deal with it themselves. It was only after the third time that they sent him for counseling with a family friend who was NOT a licensed counselor. Ultimately though, they said all the kids got professional counseling, including Josh.
Jim Bob also noted, quote, “As parents you aren’t mandatory reporters. The law allows for parents to do what they think is best for their child.”
Jim Bob and Michelle also played the VICTIM card, saying how upset they are that Josh’s JUVENILE record was released. They even claimed that their daughters were hurt more by the records coming out than by Josh touching them.
Michelle actually said, quote, “They’ve been victimized more by what has happened in these last couple weeks than they were 12 years ago because they honestly didn’t even understand or know that anything had happened until after the fact when they were told about it.”
The interview concludes tomorrow night with Josh’s sisters, 22-year-old JESSA and 24-year-old JILL, who are both victims. In a preview, Jessa says that calling Josh a molester, a pedophile or a rapist is, quote, “so overboard and a lie, really.”
