Kevin Hart says Justin Bieber’s roast was “rough”; Paul Walker jokes will not air

Kevin Hart admits that Justin Bieber’s roast over the weekend was a “little rough”.

The comedian was host for the Comedy Central event and told Jimmy Kimmel that, “there was some moments where [I thought] ‘Justin’s gonna cry in the car’.”

“You know how you can look at a person and they’re trying to have a good time, but you can tell there’s a tear? There’s one moment where I looked at Justin and he’s like [laughing and crying],” Hart further recalled of what went down at Saturday’s taping. “It’s like a laugh, but it’s not. I kept pointing at him like ‘You’d better hold back, boy. You don’t let them cameras see it come down.’ There was one knee slap where I think he covered up a cry.”

But some of the biggest criticisms came from those who thought the Paul Walker jokes went too far.

Roaster Pete Davidson of SNL referenced Bieber’s arrest for drag racing over the past year, by saying, “Unfortunately, it wasn’t with Paul Walker.” When that wasn’t met with much enthusiasm from the audience, Davidson replied by saying, “What? He’s doing great! He’s got a movie coming out!”

Comedian Natasha Leggero said, “I’m not saying Martha Stewart is old, but she needs a new Walker more than The Fast and the Furious franchise.”

Comedy Central will be cutting references to actor Paul Walker who was killed in November 2013.

“Roasts often push the limits of good taste and we give the participants full reign to try things knowing we have the edit to shape the show,” said a Comedy Central rep in a statement. “Sometimes the line is discovered by crossing it. The Paul Walker references will not be in the telecast.”

Bieber even took issue with the off-color yuks. When asked after the night’s material, the pop star, 21, told the press Saturday that “there was a lot of offensive jokes” and that “I didn’t particularly like the Paul Walker jokes.”

The roast will air March 30.
