CK Mornings

There’s a new trend online where people are texting their “number neighbor” . . . that is, the person whose phone number is one digit different than yours.

Like if your number is 867-5308, you’d text the person whose number is 867-5309.

People are posting screenshots of their text conversations with their number neighbors on social media, and the responses really run the gamut . . . from people having great conversations to people getting cursed out.

It’s funny how such a little creature can cause such a big problem. A stowaway gecko caused a scene on a flight from Mexico to England when it ran through the plane. Officials were called to Birmingham Airport after the lizard was seen darting around the flight from Cancun, Mexico. The team captured the lizard and took it to a local veterinarian for a check-up. They’re now trying to find a new home for the world-traveling lizard.

ENTERTAINMENT

“James Bond 25” is shaping up to be an impressive film with the likes of Daniel Craig, Lashana Lynch, Rami Malek and more among the cast members. But now it might be getting a royal touch. Reportedly, when Prince Charles visited the London set in June, he was offered a cameo. Now he is considering it.

Corey Feldman has revealed new details about the long-rumored “Goonies” sequel, saying that he co-wrote the original pitch for the movie.

Feldman, who co-starred in the original as ‘Mouth’, spoke to reporters at an event in Los Angeles this week, and reminisced on how badly he had wanted the sequel to happen. Rumors of a “Goonies 2” treatment and script have long circulated in Hollywood, and while it is fun to imagine, at this point it is unlikely to happen. Feldman said that “we can’t get everyone to agree on” a single idea.

GOOD NEWS

44-year-old Grant Rivera is the superintendent of a school district in Marietta, Georgia, just outside Atlanta.  He’s in charge of 8,900 students, plus 1,200 employees across 11 different schools.  And he recently got a $10,000 bonus.

But instead of keeping it, he’s donating ALL of it to pay for his students’ college applications.

The average fee is $43.  So it’s enough to cover around 230 applications.

About 500 seniors in his district are set to graduate next spring.  And he expects around 200 of them to apply for college.  But if all 500 want to apply, he says he’ll pay for all of those applications too.

Any money left over will go toward field trips to in-state college campuses.  And he hopes it inspires more students to focus on their future.  Quote, “I want them to believe in themselves as much as WE believe in them.”
(By the way, his students might want to think about pursuing a career as a superintendent.  He can afford to donate $10,000 because his current salary is just over 190 GRAND.)

Woman Gets in a High-Speed Police Chase in a Stolen Tesla . . .

There’s a 60-year-old woman named Kathy Sain from Payson, Arizona.  And on Sunday, she stole a TESLA from a parking lot outside a Subway.

The car was reported stolen quickly, and the cops wound up in a high-speed chase with Kathy.

And it ended when . . . the Tesla’s battery ran out of juice.

The cops say, quote, “Spike strips were ineffective [but] vehicle ran out of electricity” so they were able to arrest Kathy.

She was charged with theft, fleeing, criminal damage, aggravated driving under the influence, and failing to appear on two outstanding warrants.

Drunk Driver Fails to Hit the Brakes and Crashes Into a “Brakes 4 Less” Store

Some idiot in Greenville, South Carolina caused what might be the most ironic car crash of the year this weekend . . .

21-year-old Jaderric Freeman was driving DRUNK on Saturday when he didn’t hit the brakes in time . . . and crashed into an auto shop called “Brakes 4 Less.”

He hit another car first, then lost control and crashed through the front of the building.  It’s not clear if he EVER hit the brakes.  Because he didn’t stop until he hit several other cars parked inside the garage area.

He finally came to a stop in the section of the store where they do repairs.  Which he probably NEEDS now. It was the middle of the night.  So luckily no one was there.  And the driver in the other car he hit only suffered minor injuries.

Police arrested Jaderric for drunk driving.  And they might tack on a few more charges too.

WHY DRINKING WATER ALL DAY LONG IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO STAY HYDRATED

Staying hydrated it super important, but it turns out there’s an optimal way to do so.

David Nieman, a professor of public health at Appalachian State University explains, “If you’re drinking water and then, within two hours, your urine output is really high and [your] is clear, that means the water is not staying in well.”

He adds that plain water tends to move right through the human digestive system when not accompanied by food or nutrients, and this is especially true when people drink large volumes of water on an empty stomach.

The Cleveland Clinic even says that clear urine is a sign of “overhydration.” To avoid this, sip water (or any other beverage) a little bit at a time to prevent your kidneys from being “overloaded,” which will help your body retain more H2O. Also, drinking water before or during a meal or snack is another good way to hydrate.

  1. Here’s more trivia about the original Woodstock festival, celebrating a 50th anniversary, tomorrow through Sunday, August 15 – August 18.  It’s someone’s 50th birthday this weekend that was born there, among the half-million in attendance.  Woodstock MC Chip Monck made an announcement about a woman in labor, then John Sebastian dedicated his song “Younger Generation” to the couple.  There are many opinions over the years of how many babies were born there.  And you have to love that he mentions a “video phone” in the song from that long ago.

Bonus Trivia:  John Sebastian wasn’t even scheduled to perform.  He was just hanging out.  In a career changing moment, the Lovin’ Spoonful member grabbed a guitar when the crew needed time to set the stage for an upcoming band.  His decision to help out got him featured on the soundtrack and in the movie.

  1. Jim Gaffigan celebrates the birth of a new baby . . . his FOURTH at the time.  And it was delivered at home.

BRETT ELDREDGE PUTS SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE BACKBURNER

Brett Eldredge has made a huge life change, and if you follow him on social media, you may have already figured it out. He has stepped away, posting quite infrequently if at all these days. In fact, he’s traded in his high-tech phone for a flip phone in an effort to rid himself of the many distractions that once monopolized his time.

Brett tells us: [“I started the year in Malibu in January and I went by myself for most of it and then I had some writers come in, but I had my flip phone, no social media, all my . . . I had an iPad to find stuff but I deleted all those apps. I deleted everything. I just got deep with myself and with writing. I recommend it to everybody. It’s a commitment, but I was the guy that was on it all the time and I feel so much better.”]

Brett says he is even sleeping better these days, and writing more than ever for his upcoming album.

Earlier this week, Brett celebrated his latest Number One hit, “Love Someone,” with a party in Nashville.

FAST FACTS

Brett will perform this weekend in Hyannis and Cohasset, MA.

His current self-titled album was released in 2017.
