CK Mornings

A Nova Scotia woman who called 911 Sunday evening to report her SUV stolen from a parking lot not only got her vehicle back, it was returned with a full tank of gas.

Police say parked her vehicle beside an identical one and when she came back out it was gone.

It turns out the driver of the other SUV had gotten in and managed to drive away. He even filled it up with gas before realizing his mistake. The “stolen” SUV was returned to the woman, who reimbursed the man for filling her tank.

Police don’t believe either vehicle was left running in the parking lot. Some push-button start vehicles can be started without the keyless fob actually in the vehicle.

A nine-year-old girl in Simcoe, Ontario, called 911 on Saturday . . . because she was furious that her parents had told her to CLEAN HER ROOM.

The cops went to the house to clear things up . . . and they say it’s a good reminder to talk to your kids about the right and wrong reasons to use 911.  There’s no word on whether the girl actually wound up cleaning her room.

ENTERTAINMENT

Steve Carell had a brush with death recently when a fan accidentally hit him on his bike with her car. The 56-year-old made the revelation on The Ellen DeGeneres Show“I was riding, pretty fast road. I made a turn, and I didn’t see the car behind me, and they hit me from behind. So I went up over the handlebars.” He was shocked after getting hit, and so was the fan. “The woman who was driving the car jumped out,” Carell said. “She was distraught obviously, and I went over to her, and my bike was sort of stuck under the front of her car, and she’s saying, ‘Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! It’s Steve Carell!’” He joked:“She was so excited that she hit me. It was really kind of a fun experience, a fun fan encounter.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Geminid Meteor Shower”, this annual event peaks tonight and into tomorrow morning.  As Earth crosses the debris field of asteroid 3200 Phaethon, we will enjoy a predicted rate of 120 meteors seen per hour. Some consider this the best meteor shower of the year.
  • “Ice Cream Day”, it’s so good that there are multiple holidays dedicated to it. Most of them take place during the summer, but one is in December! A few fun facts …
    – Perhaps surprisingly, the most popular flavor is vanilla, snagging about 26% of total sales. Chocolate comes in a distant 2nd, with about 13% of the market.

– The largest ice cream sundae in history was made by Palm Dairies in Edmonton AB on July 24, 1988. It weighed in at over 24 tons.

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS

A 20-year-old guy named Hunter Shamatt flew to Las Vegas for a wedding this month and left his wallet on the plane.  It had his license, debit card, $60 cash, and a signed paycheck in it.  And he assumed it was all gone.

But then a few days later, his wallet was delivered to his house by FedEx, along with a note from the guy who found it.  And everything was still in there . . . plus an EXTRA $40 in cash.

The note said the guy found the wallet on the plane, wedged in a seat.  And he rounded the cash up to $100, just so Hunter could, quote, “celebrate getting [his] wallet back.”

The letter was signed with the initials “TB.”  And somehow, Hunter was able to track the guy down online and thank him.

His name is Todd Brown.  He told Yahoo News that he almost gave the wallet to a flight attendant, but wanted to make sure Hunter got it back.  So he mailed it himself.

He said it, quote, “always feels good to do the right thing.”  And he hopes it reminds people that “it’s really not that hard to be a good person.”

Vitaminwater Will Give Someone $100,000 to Give Up Their Phone for All of 2019

Vitaminwater just announced a new contest where they’ll pay someone $100,000 . . . if they give up their phone for ALL of 2019.

If they pick you, you’ll have to go 365 straight days without using your smart phone, iPad, or anyone else’s smart phone or iPad.  And you have to take a LIE DETECTOR at the end to prove you stuck to the rules.

If you did, you get $100,000.  If you only made it six months, you get $10,000.

But they don’t want you to be totally screwed in case of emergencies, so they’ll be giving you a, quote, “1996-era cellular telephone” that you can use for calls.

If you want to enter the contest, you need to post on Twitter or Instagram and say how you’d use your year if you didn’t have your smart phone, and use the hashtags #NoPhoneForAYear and #Contest.  Entries are due by January 8th.

QUESTION…. Could you give up your “smart phone” for a year?
