Cole Swindell says that Luke Bryan gave him some of the best songwriting advice he’s ever gotten but at the time he didn’t think so. Cole had emailed Luke asking him for some words of wisdom but Luke’s one-word response left Cole feeling disappointed.

“All he wrote back about advice on songwriting, he just wrote ‘live’ — one word — he just wrote ‘live’ and I was like, ‘That wasn’t a very in-depth answer’ but looking back now getting older, I mean that’s advice for life. That’s not just writing songs. It’s certainly shaped my songwriting career. (Luke) I must have been drinking the right coffee that morning. (Cole) That was good. ‘Just live. I don’t have time for this. Just live.’ (Luke) That may be my . . . out of all my . . . that’s my most profound moment. (Cole) And it kind of took me off guard. I was like, ‘Well, that wasn’t really what I was looking for’ (Luke laughs) but the older I got I was like, ‘That is the best advice he’s ever given.’ (Luke) I had a shining moment, y’all hear that?”

Cole will join Luke on the American Idol judge’s headlining Sunset Repeat Tour. Newcomer Jon Langston also shares the bill.

Cole was surprised with a platinum plaque for “Break Up In The End” during the video shoot for “Love You Too Late” on Wednesday, May 30th in Nashville.
