Why isn’t the gas pump working?

A large snake is nestled in the nozzle holder of a pump at a gas station in Georgia.  Some guy comes over, wraps a shirt around his hand for protection, and works to get it out.

It’s a four or five foot non-venomous rat snake and he sets it free in the woods.
