Chatham-Kent’s Fire Department is embracing social media to better connect with area residents.

Chief Bob Crawford says the service is now on both Facebook and Twitter. “About two years ago, we started to realize that our old school methods of trying to reach out to the public and the media were starting to fail a little.”

The department will use the sites to issue updates about ongoing fires and other safety information.
